Why is my heart doing this?

I’ve been having weird moments where my heart suddenly seems to beat really strongly- not necessarily fast, it just suddenly seems to beat very strongly and I can physically feel it pounding out of my chest and sometimes I can hear it aswell.

sometimes it’s random- last night I was reading in bed and it happened and it was as if it was beating out of my best! But it didn’t feel particularly fast or irregular, just very strong as if it was pounding really strongly (like in cartoons where the heart physically beats out their chest, that’s what it felt like!) and I could actually hear it aswell- I wasn’t hearing my pjs rustling from it beating because I took off my top to chest- it was definitely my heart beat I could hear.

has anyone else had this? Is it just caused by stress and is harmless? I tried to look into it myself and find out more online, but because I don’t know what they are it’s really difficult!

How old are you?

countrypunk · 20/01/2023 10:40

I get that too OP. I think it's perfectly normal unless you have any underlying health conditions: www.nhs.uk/conditions/heart-palpitations/

How old are you?

I’m 25 years old. I’m also a healthy weight and I don’t smoke. I have had blood tests recently (not for this) and they were all normal and expected.

Great, that’s a big relief! 😃

Could be an ectopic beat or skipped beat. Very common, can be stress related. Do you have any other symptoms such as dizziness, shortness of breath, chest pain? Either way, if you're worried, a trip to GP for ECG/bloods can put your mind at rest

Palpitations. I've had them all my life, on and off, and doctors have never been able to find anything wrong. Still worth a trip to the GP to get it checked out. Be prepared for them to suggest you give up coffee 😱 I was like "I'd do anything for my health, but I won't do that!"

Could be due to perimenopause, depending on your age. I get it too, and had ECGs and chest x-rays, but no one ever told me it can be a symptom of perimenopause
