Hi, Im organising some party games for our Cubs with another leader. The idea is to have several stations, and the children go in small groups to each station. The leader wanted to do apple bobbing. I said its nasty and he said we will change the water before the new group. But the 8 kids in each group will "share" the same water...disgusting right? Aibu?

I mean........is it that big of a deal. No

A good compromise could be the kids dropping a fork into the water to hit an apple, that was a popular variation of apple bobbing. Could that be a decent compromise?

Yabu

It's a harmless game.

And children that are Cubs age probably do more unhygienic things than bob for an apple or two

We did apple bobbing at Halloween, cubs loved it.
We only put one apple in at a time.

Other similar games... sweets in flour, or dougnuts on strings.

budgiegirl · 25/01/2023 09:55

I wouldn't let them all go after the same apple, but same water, changed between groups? Not a problem at all

IDontCareMatthew · 25/01/2023 09:56

Cubs? So camping etc? Do you sanitise the forest floor first?

heartbroken22 · 25/01/2023 09:56

Imagine if one of them had covid or the flu?

Imagine if one of them had covid or the flu?

Then they'd get it regardless of whether they put their face in some water.

Please tell me they don’t search for sweets in flour with their mouths??

NannyR · 25/01/2023 09:58

I'm sure we did apples on strings when I was in the brownies - could be a good alternative?

ComfortablyDazed · 25/01/2023 09:59

FGS, chill.

Sweets in rice crispies rather than flour. Flour is too fine if breathed in, especially for asthmatics.

One apple, one Cub, change the water. No problems. Or apples or doughnuts on strings.

ThreeFeetTall · 25/01/2023 10:15

Just do one apple at a time?

Could do ring doughnuts on a string?

MrsMikeDrop · 25/01/2023 10:16

Yuk. But kids are. Harmless fun I say

HeadNorth · 25/01/2023 10:20

Dear me, how did we all survive to adulthood playing these lethal games?! Apple bobbing is fine, loads of children do it, is has zero impact on child mortality. In fact our obsession with germs is making children less healthy.

Testino · 25/01/2023 10:21

All that saliva + snot + water mix. Yum.

ImJustADaddy · 25/01/2023 10:23

We call it 'bobbing for CoVid' 😆

Dotjones · 25/01/2023 10:27

YANBU, if "bobbing" is a must then just tell them to bring in their own washing up bowls from home, fill them up with water and chuck an apple in each, they can then safely do it.
