I bloody love X files.
I miss totp magazine, live and kicking

I remember how hopeful everything was, i remember it being always sunny, my GPs were still alive, i was a child so very rose tinted specs!

Namechange828492 · 20/01/2023 11:37

Oh being home ill and watching supermarket sweep

Toddlerteaplease · 20/01/2023 11:46

My multi coloured 'bean' shirt, and huge platform boots. Really want another pair of Buffalo or Swear boots but I think I'm too old. The X Files before it got caught up in the conspiracy theories.

Julesni77 · 20/01/2023 11:47

@DanseAvecLesLoups exactly nails it!!

Toddlerteaplease · 20/01/2023 11:49

I remember Shout and Bliss. I liked Sugar as the real
Life stories and free gifts were better. But my mum banned it. Still wonder if the story about the 16 year old mum
Of three was actually true.

Blossomandbee · 20/01/2023 11:49

Being a carefree teen. No internet, just a house phone to call friends, no social media pressure.
Good music, good shops.
Coming home from school to watch Grange Hill or Byker Grove.
Spending my pocket money on the funky coloured and glittery nail varnish that was new out.
Shout magazine.

JamSandle · 20/01/2023 11:52

The music!

Cherryblossoms85 · 20/01/2023 12:27

The drinking and lack of bullshit gender stereotypes. Although ok I don't miss the groping and general air of impunity about sexual consent.

MarshaBradyo · 20/01/2023 12:29

Not much

I mean it was fun being young and clubbing, travelling, studying but I don’t hanker to go back at all

DisforDarkChocolate · 20/01/2023 12:30

My waist.

Nothing else really as I was in a crap marriage.

I wonder how the young people of today feel? Do they still have the sense of optimism and boundless possibilities that tends to come with youth? Or do they feel gloomy about their finances, Climate Change, Brexit etc?

My dc are great wrt this. Opportunity and growing world I don’t think they care about feeling glum other things

Thelnebriati · 20/01/2023 12:38

The sense of optimism, that things were getting better - and affordable childcare. Summer childcare cost a pound. For the whole summer, thanks to a grant from the EU.

orangegato · 20/01/2023 12:42

Tammy, blow up chairs, those plastic Pringle holders you used to get.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 20/01/2023 12:57

I miss the high street - lots of different affordable options, and being excited to find something new to wear on Saturday night.

Being able to have a heated debate about politics or some other issue of the day and being able to have a drink and laugh about it afterwards. There seems so little tolerance of different opinions these days.

The lack of social media. I use it, I like it to some extent, but I'm glad it wasn't around in my teens/20s. All the pouting, perfect selfies, deleting your photo history when some boy breaks your heart etc.

And lots of other things people have posted!

TheKeatingFive · 20/01/2023 13:03

The fashion, the thriving high street.

The optimism. The feeling that things were getting better and better. It was a great time to be young.

Everyone watching tv programmes at the same time and chatting about them afterwards.

Not being plugged into devices all the time. It was a better way of life.

Crayfishforyou · 20/01/2023 13:15

Just 17

arghtriffid · 20/01/2023 13:15

Nothing.

dutysuite · 20/01/2023 13:20

Roads in London we could actually drive on without roads being closed off with planters.

Duchess379 · 20/01/2023 13:20

Clubbing!! I've started to go to Aerobics & Zumba classes & they play a lot of 90s dance music - makes me nostalgic for my early 20s, clubbing until 3am!! 😂

lizalopez · 20/01/2023 13:21

Things seemed a little bit more simpler and free.

crosspusscrossstitcher · 20/01/2023 13:28

Hooch and Barking Frog.
Being in my 20s.
The fantastic cars that had more power and no fucking satnav - modern ones are like driving with my mum or dad in the car.

Mostly... Not having to be a responsible adult
😿

crosspusscrossstitcher · 20/01/2023 13:30

Waking up the day after Labour smashed the Tories and the sun shining.

DanseAvecLesLoups · 20/01/2023 13:32

Hooch

Jeysus I had some bad hangovers on that stuff.

JudgeJ · 20/01/2023 13:34

WishIdDoneItYearsAgo · 19/01/2023 23:14

Mistakenly thinking we lived in a progressive society with a progressive government. The optimism! The night Blair won his first term it all felt so exciting and hopeful. The idea that the country would lurch to the right and vote to leave the EU would have seemed like a dystopian nightmare. We all sang ‘Things Can Only Get Better!’ Oh how naive we were! 😔

Many of we older ones with memories of previous Labour governments had a good laugh at the Things can only get better.

RitaBonita · 20/01/2023 13:34

Shagging my boss.
