bruise from dentist

Hi all. I'm a bit worried as I went to the dentist to have 2 fillings. When he gave me the injection I started wondering why the chair was shaking before realising it was me. They offered me water but I was shaking so much by then I slopped it everywhere. Complete uncontrollable shaking for 10 minutes. Dentist came back and said this happens 1 in 50-100 times. Had my 2 fillings.
Felt like shite and went to bed when I got home.
2 days later my son asked what was wrong with my face and I have a massive, dark rectangular bruise on my cheek where the fillings were done.
I sent the dentist a photo and he rang back. Said to get in touch if it gets darker or starts hurting.
A bit pissed off to pay lots of money to be scared shitless, thinking I was going to die! and then end up looking like my hubby has had a pop at me! ( Never would happen).
The dentist thanked me for ringing but did not apologise. My son thinks I should ask for a refund!

Has anyone else had a bruise after fillings? He said it was rare. I'm honestly more worried that there is something wrong with me!

We’ll, what caused the bruising??

Devineursula · 19/01/2023 08:24

Why on earth would he apologise?

Stickmansmum · 19/01/2023 08:25

And what age and expertise is your son?

Devineursula · 19/01/2023 08:25

My son thinks I should ask for a refund!

Good luck with that OP

Your blame mentality seems to have rubbed off on your son

SlashBeef · 19/01/2023 08:25
Confused
marvellousmaple · 19/01/2023 08:26

I have no idea whatt caused the bruising. The injection?
I would apologise if I did something that caused massive bruise on someone's face.
More interested if anyone else has had the same

A quick Google says bruising can occur after fillings.

marvellousmaple · 19/01/2023 08:27

Geez. I was just asking if anyone else has had a bruise on their cheek from dental work. The refund was just a sideline as me son saw it and was shocked as it does look like there has been an error.

It’s not really the dentist’s fault that you were scared but he seems to be taking your bruising seriously. If the bruising is from the injections, then that’s just something that can happen after any injection.
I got beta blockers from my gp to take before seeing one particular dentist who was completely crap. More interested in flirting with his assistant than concentrating on his patients.

Unless you are a dentist, if you caused bruising, presumably that would be because you’d punched them.

not because you’d administer an pain relief injection to a shaking uncontrollably patient.

whataboutsecondbreakfast · 19/01/2023 08:29

Bruising after anaesthetic isn't uncommon - and bruising after a medical procedure isn't uncommon either.

I don't know what he should be apologising for, really.

NewHopeNow · 19/01/2023 08:30

I haven't had the bruise but I've had the shaking after the injection. My dentist was unconcerned and said it happens and it's the adrenaline.

peachgreen · 19/01/2023 08:30

I used to work in the dental industry (though I’m not a dentist). Bruising is normal. Some people just bruise more easily than others. That kind of reaction to the anaesthetic is less common but does happen to some people (including me!) and doesn’t indicate anything to worry about. If you ever need a local again for anything else tell the provider that happened – they can adjust the medication to give you less epinephrine as that’s likely what caused the shakes.

I’m the first to call out bad dentistry but your dentist didn’t do anything wrong here.

marvellousmaple · 19/01/2023 08:30

OK forget it.
Pretend I never posted.
Sorry I thought I was going to die and am now walking around looking like I've been bashed.
Not what I expect from a dental appointment to get 2 fillings. So was worried about my own health.
Apologies for asking if other people had the same experience.
I did not google . My mistake.
Sheesh

no doubt that played a part in your bruising

do whatever op. Seek your refund. You don’t have a leg to stand on

But you have had your fillings, why on earth would either you or your son expect a refund! It is just a bruise, probably caused by your moving around whilst in the chair. It will fade.

Thank you!
I'm terrified of the dentist and finally convinced myself to go and these 2 things happened!.

No you didn’t think you were going to die, you are being truly absurd now.

maddy68 · 19/01/2023 08:33

Yes you can have bruising after fillings for all sorts of reasons. Ex dental nurse here.

It's not the dentist fault that you were shaking. It could just be that you were incredibly anxious. Or he hit a nerve when injecting you. All of which is normal.

Why do you think you are entitled to a refund? You needed two fillings. You recieved two fillings.bruising is pretty common and a possible side effect of injections and also pressure while the filling procedure occurs.

ThreeblackCats · 19/01/2023 08:33

I so you bruised after what is effectively surgery and you think you should have a refund?

here, have an ODFOD and a biscuit instead 🍪

No you weren't, you wanted thoughts on a refund?

You've got your fillings, the bruise will fade.

Get on with your day.

Lifesyoungdream · 19/01/2023 08:34

I got a bruising come up once after I been to see the dentist and didn’t really bother about. I just accepted it must have happened during my treatment.
I also get regular injections when having treatment from the hygienist and sometimes it does make me feel a bit strange.

I don't think I've explained myself well. I only started shakiing after the injection.
I'm not going to do anything about it. It was an offhand comment from my son that "jeez , you should ask for a refund" I was left shaking and bruised surely that's not ideal.
The guy is lovely.
This is why I avoid the dentist though.
