bruise from dentist

Hi all. I'm a bit worried as I went to the dentist to have 2 fillings. When he gave me the injection I started wondering why the chair was shaking before realising it was me. They offered me water but I was shaking so much by then I slopped it everywhere. Complete uncontrollable shaking for 10 minutes. Dentist came back and said this happens 1 in 50-100 times. Had my 2 fillings.
Felt like shite and went to bed when I got home.
2 days later my son asked what was wrong with my face and I have a massive, dark rectangular bruise on my cheek where the fillings were done.
I sent the dentist a photo and he rang back. Said to get in touch if it gets darker or starts hurting.
A bit pissed off to pay lots of money to be scared shitless, thinking I was going to die! and then end up looking like my hubby has had a pop at me! ( Never would happen).
The dentist thanked me for ringing but did not apologise. My son thinks I should ask for a refund!

OK forget it.
Pretend I never posted.
Sorry I thought I was going to die and am now walking around looking like I've been bashed.
Not what I expect from a dental appointment to get 2 fillings. So was worried about my own health.
Apologies for asking if other people had the same experience.
I did not google . My mistake.
Sheesh

Why did you think you were going to die?

shewolfsout · 19/01/2023 08:36

I have a bad reaction to the anaesthetic like you described, and I bruise easily. The handful of times I've had fillings it's as you described, the shaking, the bruising, just horrible. I'm fortunate to have never needed root canals or anything like that, as I know it would be truly horrendous anyway but especially for someone who has such trauma getting a normal filling like me. I don't think you can get your money back. I've never tried personally just chalked it up to one of those things.

RedRosie · 19/01/2023 08:36

I'm pretty sure that bruising can sometimes happen as a result of dental work, depending on the procedure.

But was the shaking a reaction to the local anaesthetic? I'm wondering if that's what the dentist meant.

Aprilx · 19/01/2023 08:32

No you didn’t think you were going to die, you are being truly absurd now.

Ok.
If you think that that's nice.
I have severe anxiety about health issues. My own and my family. aif you knew you'd no why.
Geez can this thread just be deleted now. I have posted , badly , in the wrong place.

I shake at the dentist. I think it's adrenaline. Even if I feel relatively calm, I'm still anxious and can't control the shaking. I find I'm pretty exhausted after having treatment as my body has reacted so much. I can even feel my bottom lip shaking.

Crikeyisthatthetime · 19/01/2023 08:47

Wow, tough crowd even for aibu! OP I think you're getting these responses because you didn't really say what your aibu was. And you ended with your son's refund comment so everyone is not reading your post properly focusing on that.
If an injection made me shake so much the chair was shaking, I'd be scared too! I hope you've had the reassurance you needed, your dentist actually sounds lovely. Next time you need a dentist, go back to him, because he will be aware of how your body reacts to the injection. The bruising just happens sometimes. Hope you feel better soon

MyOtherCarIsAHearse · 19/01/2023 09:00

You have anxiety. You need to be aware your anxiety is causing you to project that the dentist did something wrong. He didn’t. You’re having a medical procedure and bruising is common. I understand why you would think he did something wrong — because of your anxiety. But it’s not fair to them project that onto someone else.

wtqkapdj · 19/01/2023 09:00

Massive over reaction on your part OP 🤦‍♀️

dancinfeet · 19/01/2023 09:02

I got a black eye and a fractured jaw at the dentist having a back tooth removed a few years ago- I don’t blame my dentist, she is ace, it was just a very stubborn tooth!!
When it came out her hand flew back and socked me on the cheekbone with the metal instrument. The piece of jaw bone worked it’s way up through the gum about 10 days later and I had to go back to the dentist to have it removed.

GG1986 · 19/01/2023 09:02

The shaking would have been the adrenaline in the local anaesthetic. Possibly he hit the facial nerve which also caused a bruise, that can happen and is nothing to worry about. Make sure next time you go you mention it, they could try an anaesthetic without adrenaline in. Whatever you do, don't avoid going because of your fear, you will end up worse off in the long run as will need more work or extractions/root canals etc. X

Zebedee55 · 19/01/2023 09:04

This happened to my adult daughter. The bruise soon faded. Best to forget it - it happens sometimes

SouperNoodle · 19/01/2023 09:07

It sounds like you were having a panic attack.

Neither the shaking or the bruising is the dentist's fault so I wouldn't complain, ask for a refund or cause any fuss what so ever.
These things happen.

Coldilox · 19/01/2023 09:08

Yes I’ve had bruising after dental work. Wasn’t concerned at all

gamerchick · 19/01/2023 09:11

If you hadn't mentioned wanting a refund the replies would probably be different OP.

I've had that shaking thing once, took me by surprise really as I'm not a particularly nervous patient.

The fillings have been done, go to regular checkups and look after your mouth in-between and hopefully you won't need any more

justasking111 · 19/01/2023 09:14

I had a black eye after implant work. It happens.

You were shaking when you had an injection?
So much that you cannot hold a cup of water?
Shaking for 10 minutes?
Really?
You are scared of a dentist.
That is your issue not his!
What do you expect him to do he is a dentist not a nursemaid.
So you want a refund because you are scared of a very minor dental procedure?
How is that the dentists fault?
Thinking you are going to die because of a filling.
Drama queen and snowflake.
After any medical intervention you can get bruising.
It is not a big deal.
You son seems to be as big a snowflake as you are.
Tell you what to do.
Do not go to the dentist again.
See how that works out.

Mariposista · 19/01/2023 09:24

Being frightened of the dentist is real, and a horrible thing to experience. But the dentist did nothing wrong here and does not owe an apology, at least not beyond 'I'm sorry that you were scared', in empathy. He gave you dental treatment, which has caused bruising (it can do, that is just your skin, some skin bruises easier than others), and has ultimately treated you. Asking for a refund is insulting and very disrespectful.

Aargh! I've asked for this thread to be deleted as I was obviously not clear. The shaking started AFTER the injection. It was the adrenaline as he hit a vein, that went to an artery and then to my heart. I thought I already explained this. PLease at least read before commenting. No I have no plans to ask for my money back. I was just a bit shocked at how badly it all went and was wondering if the shaking and then the bruise were unusual. And yes I did think I was going to die. I was shaking like hell , heart racing , and sweating hugely in an air conditioned room . And I'm terrified of the dentist. Geez.

And btw. I may be scared of the dentist but I can read. Something that you obviously missed out on in your "how to be rude to people on the internet by calling them snowflakes" training. Go away and have a think about yourself.
And if YOU are a dentist. Good luck to your patients with such a non-empathetic person who also can't read as their dentist. FFS

Nope that is all a drip feed, not explained before. Who diagnosed all this that it hit a vein. artery and then to your heart?

Enjoy laughing at me and making out I'm lying if it makes you feel good. I was just asking for anyone having a similar experience as I am very anxious .

You said originally THE DENTIST just said that this happens 1 in 50/100 times. I too can read and therefore you don't need to use capital letters when answering me.

How do I hide the thread please?
