Handhold needed - referred under 2 week wait

Sorry posting here for traffic.

I'm really scared. For 3.5 years now I've had bleeding between periods. It's always been brushed off or said to be nothing. Eventually this year I was referred for a pelvic ultrasound. Whilst waiting for this ultrasound, I've developed issues with my bladder - constant need to wee, and pressure in the area. Treated over and over again for a UTI but it never got better.

I had the scan on 5th Jan. Only just found out today that they found a "mass" on the scan, they think on my ovary, and they can't tell what it is. So I've been referred under 2 week wait for gynecology.

I'm petrified. I'm also really annoyed - I called the GP surgery twice trying to get my results only to be told they weren't in yet. Eventually I contacted the hospital who told me the results were sent the same day I had the scan! When I explained this the receptionist magically found my results, and that the GP had urgently referred and asked to speak to me.

If I hadn't chased it up I would've thought there was nothing wrong, and suddenly been blindsided with an urgent referral letter in the post.

I'm just so shocked and scared by all of this. I'm only 32. My only symptoms are irregular bleeding for a few years and frequent urination (which only started 5 weeks ago). Any positive stories of similar things that turned out to be nothing?? Or a handhold while I wait :(

Yes, after it was removed all the symptoms disappeared. I do hope you get a date very soon.

Thank you, I got a call from the hospital earlier. My appointment is a week today, so glad I don't have to wait too long.

Glad to hear your appointment is through now. Thinking of you .

Hello, just thought I would update for anyone interested. I ended up having my appointment at the hospital today. The gynecologist said I have a 10cm dermoid cyst on my ovary (about the size of a large grapefruit!!). She is not concerned about it being malignant at all. Said I have nothing to worry about. My CA125 came back as 12 which is very low.

However I will need a CT scan so they can get a proper look (as on ultrasound they couldn't see my ovary at all, it is completely enveloped by the cyst) and then surgery to remove it.

I'm very relieved, and so happy there is something that can be done to sort out my bladder problems!

Yay! So pleased for you!

Great news OP! Thank you for the update.

So glad all is ok. For anyone in a similar situation who finds this thread, the 2ww guidelines are set at a positive predictive value of 3% for cancer, so they should be finding 3 cancers for every 100 people referred on that pathway.

JFDIYOLO · 25/01/2023 13:55

Oh fantastic! It's so frightening isn't it? Three cancer scares in two years here, all turned out ok and pretty swift getting appointments, but OMG the wait for the results ...

Panda8383 · 25/01/2023 14:08

That’s good news, so glad they finally got to the bottom of it and you got answers x

MrsFrugal · 25/01/2023 14:18

I really feel for you OP, I can understand why you are feeling the way you are despite it being unlikely its very difficult not to panic in these situations, just wanted to send you a virtual hug and wish you all the best

Ah, great news, thanks for the update OP! x
