My boss is being unfair…I think?

I posted about my boss last week.

We work in healthcare, and in the autumn I had college students on placement with me for 6 weeks. It takes a lot of time and paperwork. We agreed that I’d have them in autumn and summer, and my boss would have them in spring.

They started placement today with my boss. My boss only works 4 days a week, so I said they can shadow me on the other day. Fair enough.
My boss works Mondays, but today she was doing admin.

I was really surprised because she went home at lunch to do work there.
its meant to be her day of work, and her students, yet I was lumped with them for the afternoon. Not that I mind them, but I had a non stop schedule and of course I don’t want to leave them in the lurch so I spend time chatting to them and discussing my sessions with them.

I just found it so completely unfair. We agreed to divide the placements and this time it wasn’t a split placement. Now I’m basically taking on 2.5 placements this year.

And of course she pockets the money for it.

An I being unreasonable or over dramatic?

YANBU, you need to talk to her. What do you mean she pockets the money, does she get paid extra for it?

YANBU, especially if there is additional money involved. You can either speak to your boss, or go to the next level up, or to HR.

YANBU

Are you able to discuss it with the person who allocates the placements? They may be able to come up with a solution whereby if their mentor isn't available for a set day they can shadow another person.

Sorry I should’ve been clearer! It’s only me and my boss, plus another part time worker (my boss is the director of the whole place).

Small business!

Oh well you are pretty much buggered then, unless they are receptive when you speak to them!

Ask for a raise to compensate for all the extra work you're doing.

Onautopilot1 · 16/01/2023 22:36

If the mentoring is paid by the hour, send an invoice for the extra hours you do . One way or another it will be sorted quickly where money is involved!

I just don’t feel like I can say anything!

Sit them in a room to study.
