To ask your screen time and parameters for a 9 year old

I have an almost 9 year old DD. We had a scare today and I think I need to tighten up on the rules we have re her use of tablet etc. I'd be very interested to hear the rules others use re screen time and which apps are safe to use etc.

I have a 9 year old. He is allowed 30 mins of screen time on iPad or Xbox if he’s finished whatever else he’s supposed to have done (eg little jobs around the house or homework etc). I use Microsoft Family Controls for the xbox and Apple Family Sharing on the iPad to automatically limit the time to 30 mins, and also they both have settings where you can limit apps and content to stuff suitable for 9 year olds. I also (whenever possible) insist that he uses the iPad in the same room that I am - he’s not allowed to disappear to his room with it.

I am not always popular but that’s what being a parent is about…

My son is 10. He doesn't have a personal electronic device of any description, nor a phone. He watches youtube on the TV in the living room and the odd Netflix thing.

We generally allow up to 2 hours a day in total, spread out before and after school. If I think he's had too long watching TV (his behaviour deteriorates) I will ban him from the TV for a few days.

My 16 yr old DD has a phone but she has to charge it downstairs overnight and has no other screen or device in her room. She has insta but isn't allowed Snapchat or tiktok.
