Today I found out that DP, when buying Krispy Kremes always self scans them as ring donuts even if he's buying the more expensive ones with a filling. AIBU to be outraged?

Urgh you’re married to a thief. What else does he lie about and steal?

NutellaEllaElla · 15/01/2023 19:08

It's such a petty thing to do. Why's he so cheap he has to steal a few pennies worth of doughnut?

Iam4eels · 15/01/2023 19:08

If supermarkets are expecting customers to do the job of actual paid staff for free via self-checkouts then they shouldn't be surprised when customers cream a little off the top by mis-pricing items. A little bit of payback for all the jobs they got rid of by bringing in so much self-scan.

Sparklingbrook · 15/01/2023 19:09

He’s probably not the only one. I heard of people scanning buns and cakes as bread rolls.
It’s theft but I imagine people will be along soon to say it’s fine. What else is he stealing?

Cileymyrus · 15/01/2023 19:14

Does he do it intentionally to defraud, or his he just a bit thick and thinks he’s ringing through “a doughnut” with no thought to some being more expensive than others?

gravyriceandchips · 15/01/2023 19:15

I get his point.

Just walk as if your not with him when you leave.

What's his point?

Mylittlesandwich · 15/01/2023 19:19

Not ok, Krispy Kreme are expensive. I rarely buy them due to the cost. Supermarket prices are through the roof as it is the last thing we need is more of an increase to cover the price of others thieving luxury items.

Sparklysunshine · 15/01/2023 19:20

Krispy Krime made me laugh ! But back to the point I couldn’t get worked up over this, if I’m ever going to be arrested for theft it shall be for cakes or bread products !

HDready · 15/01/2023 19:20

Bit more extreme, but this guy was sacked for scanning them as carrots - BBC

dahgwyq · 15/01/2023 19:23

Ick

So let's get this straight... You think it's OK to steal from someone whose actions you don't approve of? That you're justified in breaking the law when you fancy it?

That's not at all what I said.

I said that supermarkets shouldn't be surprised that people steal when they've replaced paid check-out staff who are motivated to not steal/scan items incorrectly with unpaid customers who are not.

atteatimeeverybodyagrees · 15/01/2023 19:27

Theft. And of a nonessential item.

That would put me right off.

Reminds me of Anthony Worrall thompson

Testingtesting1212 · 15/01/2023 19:27

Genius, why didn’t I think of this? 😂

SomethingLessIdentifiable · 15/01/2023 19:28

Krispy Krime

Haha well done OP, well done GrinGrinGrin

RobertaFirmino · 15/01/2023 19:29

Krispy Krime! My issue is with him buying the self service KK - in my nearest Tesco they all have fingerprints on the icing where grotty children have mauled them. Thankfully, there's an actual KK about 30 metres away. Pricey but best mate loves them so I occasionally get a couple to take round.

Iam4eels · 15/01/2023 19:29

I also can't get worked up about someone stealing what essentially amounts to 40p on a doughnut. Hardly the heist of the century.

VladmirsPoutine · 15/01/2023 19:33

I don't think you'll get many people on Mumsnet who'll think it ok. I'm not saying it's the same but this is the same forum people will randomly find a £10 note on the street and other posters will encourage them to contact the police to launch an investigation into who the tenner belongs to before the OP can be given clearance to spend it.

Quite!

I also know someone who is security at Tesco. If they have a suspicion that certain people are doing this, they let them do it repeatedly, whilst they film them, just so they can get enough evidence so that the shopper can’t claim “it was an accident” or ‘I’ve only done it once’.
They can see the transactions live on the back office so can see exactly what is being scanned and paid for with a time stamp to marry it up to the cctv footage.

bellac11 · 15/01/2023 19:34

I think thats pretty bad

I think eating the things is even worse. They're repulsive.

Whatatimetobealivetoday · 15/01/2023 19:35

krispy krime 😂😂

sunseaandme · 15/01/2023 19:36

YABU. I mean I would be a bit shocked if my partner did this but I think to be 'outraged' is an it of an over reaction

booboo82 · 15/01/2023 19:36

Hahaha I've done this regularly 🤣🤣🤣

Sparklingbrook · 15/01/2023 19:36

Yes I have heard from a friend who works in a supermarket that security look for patterns of behavious so the people scanning incorrectly consistently may well be being monitored.
