Tik tok concerns.

I've only recently got the app and I'm appalled at all these parents filming their babies getting hurt by an older sibling. I see babies getting pulled about, pinched even slapped, and the parent carries on filming.

Anyone else shocked at this? I report each one but don't know if there's anything else I can do.

That's not the kind of content I get but if you see one like that you need to swipe up so the algorithm doesn't give you more videos like that.

gawditswindy · 15/01/2023 17:22

YABU for downloading TikTok. A lot of the content (not all, I know) is very questionable.

watchfulwishes · 15/01/2023 17:24

This is the problem with video apps - they are full of people creating pretty grim content. Lots of great/funny stuff of course but the grim stuff is all mixed in.

Yes I never realised. Some of the stuff is awful, I quickly scroll past. But I just wonder why Tik tok allow videos of child abuse.

It isn't a question of whether they allow it, but there aren't e enough staff in the world to review all the content on Tiktok. Report the video and if enough people do it'll be taken down.

Wait, is that how it works? I thought you could only swipe up to move to the next thing. What should you do if you do like it and want to see more that are similar to the thing you got?

(not that I get child abuse, I get all lesbian thirst traps, or sausage dogs, or crochet, apparently.)

Lindtcat · 15/01/2023 17:27

Ive never seen anything like this on tiktok. When you see it, report it. So it doesn't show it anymore, the more you watch, the more it will show.

TroysMammy · 15/01/2023 17:30

My main videos are kittens, followed by hair styles then daft twats not finishing their videos.

If you want to see more, interact with the video by liking it or leaving a comment.

Things that you don't want to see more of, hold down on the screen and a menu comes up where you click "not interested".

The longer you watch videos for, also affects the algorithm and it'll show you more similar stuff.

I've never seen a video of babies being hurt but tik tok knows exactly what to show me!

If you quickly swipe up TikTok figures you aren’t interested. If you stay and watch the video it will give you more like that.

Celeryfavour · 15/01/2023 17:32

Long press and click on not interested. The algorithm is very responsive.

ShinyMe · 15/01/2023 17:37

Thank you! I've definitely noticed it's fairly responsive when i've swiped up immediately, but I didn't realise I could click and hold, thanks.

I like tiktok, personally.

MaverickGooseGoose · 15/01/2023 17:38

I don't see that. At all. I mostly get house cows and horses. The algorithm responds to what you are watching.

TarasHarp55 · 15/01/2023 17:39

I think the ones where I see babies being hurt maybe aren't classed as abuse because believe it or not they get a lot of "cute" comments.

Yes I'll certainly do that, thank you.

There is a lot of problematic videos but I've not seen this in particular

Tinktravels · 15/01/2023 17:51

If you hold down on a video there is also a 'not interested' option which I assume it will show you less videos like that

Yes the trouble is, I don't think tik tok differentiates between them and happy/funny baby videos, (which I like).....so when they come up you think it's going to be nice, then you see a sibling being rough with baby whilst parent stands by. In other words you don't know at first.

I have TikTok.
there’s tons of wrong stuff on it. I tend to look at just the pages I follow because there’s also lots of good stuff on it.

I think there’s a big issue with people uploading disturbing content of their children . Things like people scaring their children for a laugh, uploading high quantity of content of their child and people apparently making content for peadophiles (things like kids eating sausages they get tons of views).

there’s actually some really good account talking out about it too.
