Blood - period not due

whywouldthisbe · 15/01/2023 13:47

Reposting here for traffic. Apologies, but I am concerned. Just want to know if anyone has experienced this:

After wiping last night, there was a small amount of blood on the toilet paper. Seems to be just this one wipe. Definitely from the vaginal area.

I'm not the best at tracking my period, as no need to, really. But I'm certain my period isn't due for another 12 days or thereabouts. Definitely not now. I'm 40.

I'm not on any contraception and haven't had sex.

I got my invitation for my smear just the other day, so will do for that soon.

Just wondered if anyone had ever had similar?

Thanks.

Yes and it should be a call to gp. If you google it nhs will say to get it checked.

whywouldthisbe · 15/01/2023 13:57

Thanks. I have googled. I was just hoping others had it experienced it and could out my mind at rest.

I had checks and polyps were removed so all good. But it's happened again so was back in on Friday for another biopsy as they can grow back. Lots of reasons for it I think so no need to panic, especially if it's the first time.

Dogsgottabone · 15/01/2023 14:04

Yes I had it. GP said it was ectropian cells where some of the uterine lining/cells had come out of the uterus into the vagaina.

Normal apparently.

Can happen after sex etc.

Also as you're 40 could it be a random period as the start to peri? Mine started going haywire at 42.

whywouldthisbe · 15/01/2023 14:09

Thank you. Definitely nothing like a period. Just that one little bit last night after using the toilet.

Periods have always been quite regular, although had one come a good few days early a while back.

No sex recently.

I've looked up peri-menopause and I suppose it could be related, but I can't say I've had any other symptoms, apart from maybe some sore joints a few weeks back.

Rebel2023 · 15/01/2023 14:10

I get it all the time, usually around ovulation

Aquamarine1029 · 15/01/2023 14:11

This happened to me at 40. It was the start of Peri. Other symptoms started shortly thereafter and I was on HRT by 41.

whywouldthisbe · 15/01/2023 14:25

Thank you both.

@Rebel2023 every period though? I've never experienced it as far as I can recall.

@Aquamarine1029 was it just a one off?

OP posts:
fairgame84 · 15/01/2023 14:32

I've got an ectropion so get random bleeding throughout the month. See your gp if you're worried.

Not a one off at all. My once clockwork periods went absolutely insane.

gravyriceandchips · 15/01/2023 14:39

Happened to me at 42. I'm 43 still happens occasionally.

Doctor tested my bloods for peri and nothing came back but the nurse said it doesn't always show and sometimes you need to go back at different times of your cycle.

Also I have heard that the covid jab affects periods. Mine have been affected since I had the covid jab but I didn't realise till I heard this and I'm not 100% on when it started so I could possibly be making it fit in my mind dates wise. Not sure.

It also could be nothing to do with the covid jab.

mac1974 · 15/01/2023 14:44

I get this occasionally. I was on the pill and asked the nurse and she said it's nothing to worry about. I went on the coil in august and have had it twice since then. I'm 43 so interested that it could be to do with being peri menopausal. I've been invited for a full health check at the GP due to my age so I'll book in and ask about it then.

whataboutsecondbreakfast · 15/01/2023 14:47

You should see your GP if you're worried but it's fairly normal and highly unlikely to be anything sinister.

I started getting this randomly a few years ago - had scans, blood tests etc. and the conclusion was that it was hormonal.

MrsMattMurdock · 15/01/2023 14:51

Had this maybe 3 times when I was 42, had an ultrasound, found nothing. Went away by itself. Now coming up to 45 and on the implant, which does make things irregular. Don't think I'm peri (or that I was).

FangsForTheMemory · 15/01/2023 14:58

Yes, it was polyps. Minor op to get them sorted but you need to get checked.

whywouldthisbe · 15/01/2023 15:31

Thanks for the replies.

I hope it's not peri menopause already. I know a few people struggling with that.

I started getting mid-cycle bleeding a few months ago, just before I turned 40.

Doctor referred me for a colposcopy due to my anxiety after having an abnormal smear ten years ago, and all was fine, as was my smear, which was done at the same time.

But the bleeding has been getting worse each month and currently feel like I'm having another period 😕

Googling seems to be pointing to peri. Thinking of booking in with a GP who specialises in women's health as when I mentioned it to one previously, it was totally brushed under the carpet.

Mummieslncorporated · 15/01/2023 15:50

I'm 51 and I've been bleeding a little between periods (about a week before I'm due) since about your age. I've been checked out and it's been linked to peri.

Get checked, but don't worry.

I'm hearing the doctors can be pretty dismissive of the suggestion of peri menopause.

I hope you get sorted, I can understand the anxiety.

Wow, seems a long time.

I had this a 40. Turned out I had a polyp, an ovarian cyst and a thickened womb lining. All removed, non-sinister and haven't reoccurred.

Just the one single time? One wipe? No link to contraception or sex?

Contact your GP, they'll arrange a pelvic ultrasound to check all okay. I think it's common but def worth a check with these things

A couple of times before I got it checked out. No link to contraception or sex.

GrandTheftWalrus · 15/01/2023 20:34

I used to get a lot of bleeding between periods, after sex etc. Had lots of swabs, scans and bloods taken. Nothing showed up so they decided to blame my weight.

Lost 7 stone and it still happened. Still no solution until I got pregnant and fibroids showed up at my 1st scan. I have a large one and several small ones.

However after I had my 1st the bleeding etc stopped. But since having my 2nd I've noticed my periods coming 1 day early every month apart from this month when it was 1 day late.
