People that Say they don't watch TV

Aquarius1234 · 14/01/2023 22:04

OMG so annoying. Esp those that lie.
You do watch TV so stop making out you spend all evening not looking at a screen!
Or those that say they never watch movies or go cinema. You then find out they go twice a year.
Watching sport or netflix counts as watching tv regardless if you watch it on your laptop or not.

Smug, and annoying as fuck. Also inviting tech neck with all that small screen/laptop watching.

TheRookie · 14/01/2023 22:32

XenoBitch · 14/01/2023 22:20

No, a film.

You already said previously that you chose a program so your lie isn't working any more 🤣

XenoBitch · 14/01/2023 22:32

WetLettuce2 · 14/01/2023 22:28

I don’t have access to any screens. I don’t have a phone, or wifi.

I read, and think deeply.

But if you got see a film at the cinema, according to OP, you watch TV.

I think it’s interesting to see how pedantic people get when trying to make themselves feel better.

Yes TV stands for television but colloquially most understand it to now mean more than that. It’s like saying you never call people because you only use FaceTime.

Yes so do I.

Some people don’t watch tv , why would that bother you?

TheRookie · 14/01/2023 22:33

DoNotIron · 14/01/2023 22:25

Pendantic!!!

Eh?

She is being extremely pedantic in her use and definition of 'watching tv'

I can choose a film. FFS, why is this shit a AIBU? Better things to get worked up about.

People that say they don't. But they eventually mention sport , movies, News, etc etc that's watching TV

Seems such a trivial thing to get worked up about.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 14/01/2023 22:31

I didn’t see your issue until people started demonstrating it in the replies. I never realised people say they don’t watch TV when they mainly watch streaming services etc. That’s what I do but wouldn’t think that it counts as not watching TV 😂. Also a screen is a screen.

Indeed. A screen is a screen.

OP posts:
Bubblebubblebah · 14/01/2023 22:35

It's not that difficult so no idea why people who genuinely don't watch anything on anything are getting nickers in a twist.
This isn't about them.

😂😂😂😂 nicely done.

oviraptor21 · 14/01/2023 22:36

I don't think watching DVDs counts as watching TV unless you're watching a made for TV series. Watching a film seems somehow different. But maybe not if you're watching it on Netflix or whatever!
Sport as well I don't really think of as TV as such.
I think I'd define watching TV as watching something that was made for.broadcast on TV. Which isn't films and isn't sport. Probably a few other things in there like live broadcasts from Glastonbury or Last Night of the Proms.
That's my definition. Maybe other people have different definitions, especially now they're watching things on laptops and tablets.

Aquarius1234 · 14/01/2023 22:36

Well done to those few that have interesting hobbies that don't involve screen time or hours texting.
Good for your eyes and wrinkles no doubt.

I know what you mean!

My family member
"oh we don't have tv, we don't want to spend evenings infront of it (judgy look at my tv). We don't watch it"
"Didn't you just talk about netflix and Bake off?"
"Yeah but we watch it on pc monitor. We just wouldn't want to spend time in front of tv wasting time"

This is mad
honestly never heard this sort of comment before this thread.

You must have missed the OP's other thread about people who drink/don't drink water Hmm

Exactly.

The OP is clearly talking about people who say they do not watch TV because they don't consume the content on a physical TV but instead on another form of screen such as a laptop, phone or tablet.

It should not I suppose surprise me that so many fail in basic reading compensation.

LivingNextDoorToNorma · 14/01/2023 22:39

My brother would say he doesn’t watch TV, even though he’s very into films/cinema. He’s not lying or being pedantic (or deliberately annoy the op). It’s just that it’s usually said during a conversation about what the other person/people have been watching. Saying that he doesn’t watch TV just saves time rather than saying ‘I don’t watch it’ when they ask his opinion on love island / David Attenborough documentary / ITV drama.

TheMightyOak · 14/01/2023 22:42

I also find it weird how there sometimes seems to be a smugness about it, like the parents who only let their kids play with wooden toys, it’s a bit precious

My DD had a friend round once for a play date and when the father collected her our television was on and he said "Oh, is it tv night?" 🙄
He was a pretentious git.

Doing cross stitch has been terrible for my wrinkles an eyesight.

Aquarius1234 · 14/01/2023 22:26

I've already said the ones that say they don't watch TV. But yet have every netflix amazon. Brit box. Sky. Etc.
Either they watch on phone or laptop. And probably TV sometimes too. Makes no difference its just watching tv on different device. Hence device s.

Calm down, not everyone has a tv and not everyone has mobiles, computers or ipads or any electronic viewing devices

There are people who manage life without screens

Beautiful3 · 14/01/2023 22:46

No I don't watch TV at all. The TV is off all day. It's only on when my husband's here, and I go into another room, because I cannot stand the TV.

watchfulwishes · 14/01/2023 22:46

I would say I don't watch much TV, but I guess I do watch quite lot of news. 80% of my TV time will be news.

I sort of know what people mean - they mean they don't watch drama or light entertainment - the sort of stuff that people usually discuss when talking about TV, the sort of TV that gets reviewed.

I don't even properly watch the news most of the time, it is just on for company while I read.

Yes. And this thread isn't about them then 😁

DoNotIron · 14/01/2023 22:47

Yes, pedantic, that's the one @TheRookie.

DixonD · 14/01/2023 22:48

XenoBitch · 14/01/2023 22:07

Not sure what your issue is, tbh.
I say I don't watch TV.. and by that I mean I do not sit in front of it and keep channel surfng for things to watch. I know what I want to see, and I select those programs and nothing else.
I don't smoke but I tried a fag in my teens. Does that mean I am lying about not smoking?

So… you watch TV then!
