girl: why do we have pancake day is it a religious thing?
boy: no it's something to do with lent and making sure you have eaten all your eggs.
girl: oh I thought it was a religious thing
boy: pretty sure it isn't.

OMG Ok I know I shouldn't listen to local radio but it is conversations like this that get me out of bed (so I don't have to hear it any more)
But this morning really made me quite cross/sad/ohh frustrated.

I remember a few years ago (actually probably about 25 ) and a DJ on Radio 1 announced on his show that it was Pancake Day - when it wasn't and it was pointed out later that he had been reading The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole and it had been pancake day on 14th Feb in the book so he (the DJ) assumed that Pancake Day was the same day as Valentine's Day every year.

More worrying was that lots of people wrote in and said that they'd made pancakes that day because they didn't know any better (not that there's anything wrong in having pancakes any day of course but you know what I mean!)

At least you weren't listening to Chris Moyles.

Very charitable of you TFM but I think he just genuinely didn't know about the origins of pancake day/ shrove Tuesday or what Lent actually is.

Thing is we tried listening to our prefered radio station in the morning and it makes us get up late! just one more song, oh we will just wait for the weather / traffic / news..

All my own fault.. want to email them and rant even though I know they will scoff at how old I am and I am not their target audience so they don't give a stuff....
