About a year ago I developed sciatica. My sciatica has never been that bad or very painul but it does ae me limp and I have to be careul what type of seat I sit on. Today I went shopping and took the bus and sitting on the bus cause me to get a bit of sciatica pain down my leg. I do get flare ups from time to time.
A woman I know develoed sciatica 3 years ago. When she first got it it was very very painful andd she said she could hardly walk and was virtually bed ridden for a few days. I have never been that bad.
What I am curious to know is I have toldd her I get flare ups from time to time and asked her if she got flare ups an she saidd no. She no longer has pain or flare ups but what she does have is the leg where she developed sciatica has gone completely numb and the leg is weak. She said the muscles are not that strong anymore.
I would love not to get any more flare ups but I suspect that if her leg was not num then she would be like me an get flare ups. It has just dawne on me that she never gets pain because her leg is numb and threfore ddoes not feel a flare up. I would hate to have a numb leg and cannot imagine what it feels like to walk on a numb leg. To help me undertan what it feels like, I try to imagine what my mouth feels like when I have hadd dental treatment and they numb the mouth. That is bad enough but having a permanent numb leg for the rest of your life must be horrible.
The flare ups are not that bad but I do limp and people have comentd at work but other people at work who say oh yes I get sciatica. I never see them limping
any avice. I do the exercises from my physio as directe 4 times a day but its sitting on the bus or on a park bench that sets it off
