So a teenage relative had their birthday last week (older teenager). I posted a card but didn’t want to include cash in case it got lost.

Messaged said relative to wish them a happy birthday and ask for bank details so I could transfer cash as I didn’t want to post. Message was read but no reply.

Should I try to obtain bank details from the mum or just leave it since I didn’t get a reply and thus guessing they don’t care about receiving the money?

Don’t want to be petty but family especially the mum usually only gets in touch when something directly benefits her and rarely say thank you for anything. If I do nothing I wouldn’t be surprised to receive a chaser from her eventually.

Aibu to do nothing or should I get in touch again. As I say message has definitely been seen and read.

I'd leave it, they'll realise sooner or later.

But you don't actually know it's been read so I wouldn't assume they're ungrateful/not bothered.

I would leave it.

I only think it was read as saw two blue ticks on WhatsApp. I suppose my default position is ungrateful as they are the only family I know that doesn’t at least text a thank you for gifts but I could be wrong to assume that!

I'd leave it. They aren't grateful for what you are offering so why put yourself out.

If you are really genuine about wanting to send some money I would chase it. I'd feel really cheeky if someone asked for the bank details to send some money as a gift so I probably wouldn't reply, unless they asked again. That depends on how well you know them and the type of people they are. From what you say, they don't sound like you should bother.
