To ask if adult daughters earnings effects our Universal Credit

Dh works full time, I'm a SAHM with 2 young dc and we get a small amount of Universal Credit.
Our dd moved out at 19 but needs to move back home but she's earning a good wage, more than dh.
I am trying to work out how this will effect our Universal Credit.
I've attached some information I've found online but I'm unsure which of these or both is applicable.
Does anyone else have a adult working child at home that can advise, it looks as though she's going to have a lot of money to be able to come home.

She's 22 now I forgot to add.

Yes it will.
Update your UC claim on your online account. All straightforward

astressfulmess · 14/01/2023 11:15

I know that, I'm asking how much money we would lose so we can work out if we can afford to have her back home.

This is what I've seen online but not sure if it's both.

if she is living with you, and earning, why would her contribution to the household not be taken into account?

IhearyouClemFandango · 14/01/2023 11:18

Surely she can contribute and therefore assuage your losses?

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 14/01/2023 11:18

Try the entitledto calculator online with DDs income added.

You should ask her to make up the difference as her contribution to the household.

serenghetti2011 · 14/01/2023 11:19

Well it says on there how much she earns equals how much you will lose. My son is an apprentice so I lost all of my housing benefit rest was fine but he pays his way as he knows I still need to pay rent, feed him etc so work out what you’ll lose and your daughter will need to make up that shortfall in rent, she won’t get away with living anywhere else for free

Ursuala · 14/01/2023 11:19

How much is she earning OP?

Ursuala · 14/01/2023 11:20

100% she is a non dependent Op.

JustKeepBuilding · 14/01/2023 11:20

The non-dependent deduction is £77.87 for UC. Your first photo is for housing benefit, not UC.

Hwory · 14/01/2023 11:21

Op you’ve posted the non dep deductions of both Universal Credit (Housing Allowance) and Housing Benefit (the legacy benefit).

You are in receipt of UC so it’ll reduce by £77.87 per month no matter what your daughter earns (unless you’re entitled to to not having a non dep deduction on the claim).

What do you mean”both”?

Ursuala · 14/01/2023 11:22

Do you receive HB?

JustKeepBuilding · 14/01/2023 11:23

Ursuala · 14/01/2023 11:21

OP means do UC deduct the £77.87 mentioned in the second photograph as well as the amount corresponding to how much DD earns mentioned in the first photograph. Which they don’t, so it isn’t both they deduct.

astressfulmess · 14/01/2023 11:24

it looks like £84.85 a week plus £77.87 plus giving us money for food and our bills being higher which is £417.27 plus if she pays £200 a month for bills and all food, we'd be looking at over £600. Is that right?

No, on UC they will only deduct £77.87.

No because you don’t receive Housing Benefit as the screenshot shows.

So does that mean it will only be £77.87 a month or is that as well? We get the rent as an element of universal credit which I assume is housing benefit or are that separate?

OP posts:
JustKeepBuilding · 14/01/2023 11:27

Housing benefit is a separate benefit and is not the same as the housing element of UC. The only thing UC will deduct is £77.87 a month.

IhearyouClemFandango · 14/01/2023 11:28

Have you been through Entitled To or similar?

Hwory · 14/01/2023 11:29

No you receive the Housing Allowance WITHIN your Universal Credit award (check your UC statement it breaks down your elements).

Housing Benefit is a separate legacy benefit awarded by the council prior to the introduction to Universal Credit.

Hwory · 14/01/2023 11:30

She’ll need to pay £77.87 (per month) plus whatever for increased bills.

Ursuala · 14/01/2023 11:31

Do you get council tax reduction?
