www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/mum-who-hit-boy-12-8022761

So, a group of 20 or so kids are throwing mud and rocks at people using the river. A paddleboarder remonstrates with them, they argue back and she hits one with a paddle.
I think she's very brave. And the journalist doesn't think of asking the family how they feel about their son/grandson enjoying himself chucking rocks at people! It's all, poor boy.
If I knew where she lived, I'd send her a bunch of flowers.

I dont think she’s brave at all. She assaulted a child.

Theunamedcat · 13/01/2023 20:02

So a group of children assault people with rocks stones and mud it escalates and a child gets injured but only one person faces consequences? Why are the children not facing consequences too? Actions have consequences they could have hurt people they shouldn't get off scott free simply because one person hot hurt no-one is covered in glory here they should ALL face consequences

NotThoseKindOfEggs · 13/01/2023 20:05

I’m sure she’s very remorseful, but I would have done the same if those kids were throwing mud and rocks at me and my family.

Oysterbabe · 13/01/2023 20:08

You can't just go around cracking kids heads open if they misbehave. He was 12 years old ffs.

thunderstruckk · 13/01/2023 20:08

These are children that are in clear need of proper consequences in life - not saying a paddle to the head was the right one at all, but he probably won't do it again!

DuesToTheDirt · 13/01/2023 20:10

Completely beside the point I know, but "eminated", "tjhem"... ? Local journalism is terrible!

DuesToTheDirt · 13/01/2023 20:11

And yes, where is the condemnation of the boys throwing rocks at people?

The twelve year old children? Throwing rocks is pretty widely condemned.

Ragwort · 13/01/2023 20:13

I am sure if it had been a man picking up the paddle board and smashing it round a child's face you would not be making the same comments Hmm.
Of course the youngsters behaved appallingly but why didn't she just remove herself and her DC from the situation. It was a shocking thing to do.
Countless threads on Mumsnet over the years always state that no violence is acceptable ... why is this any different?

Sausagenbacon · 13/01/2023 20:13

Not in the article. If I was that boy's parent I'd have been mortified but there's no mention of that

Was it you that posted before and had it deleted?

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 13/01/2023 20:14

I'd have been tempted to shout, scream, swear, maybe even throw some mud back at them but no adult should be smacking anyone, let alone kids, round the head with a heavy paddle. That's just not on, she deserves the sentence she got.

ConfusedNT · 13/01/2023 20:15

Are you the same poster that was faffing on about this yesterday.

A geiup of children threw some stones and rocks. In retaliation a woman stormed up to the group, picked on the one black boy in the group who hadn't thrown stones and hit him with a paddle hard enough around the head to leave scarring.

What next, one child hits another and you are okay to shoot them?

DuesToTheDirt · 13/01/2023 20:15

Not by their families it seems, or anyone else quoted in the article! The comments are more mixed though.

The point of the article is the adult assaulting the child though. It doesn’t have to say ‘of course, they shouldn’t have been throwing rocks in the first place’ because thats obvious. The story is the aggression from the adult.

Sausagenbacon · 13/01/2023 20:17

No, I hadn't seen the previous thread.
And, being mn, it just has to come round to being racism.

She probably shouldn't have done it, however everyone condemning HER violence - where is the condemnation of their violence? Throwing rocks could injure or even kill a young child if it hit the wrong place.

12 years old or not, they're old enough to know right from wrong and until there are proper punishments in place for little shits like this it will continue to happen as they have absolutely no respect for anyone 🤷‍♀️

What proper punishment would you like?

HikingforScenery · 13/01/2023 20:19

The rock-throwers should have been charged with something like ‘intent to harm’ or ‘intent to kill’ or whatever the proper equivalent charge is.
They’ll do it again at some point. Many of us know adult versions of these delinquents. They’d probably be better adults if they’d faced consequences.

I wouldn’t send the woman flowers, although I understand Mama Bear coming out to defend her children. She took
it too far in the end, unfortunately

youshouldnthaveasked · 13/01/2023 20:20

These feral kids go around unchecked because their lazy ass parents have washed their hands of them. There are children this age who behave in a similar in our community and they cause bother and distress for many residents but they continue to get away with it.

Just because he is 12 doesn’t mean he is innocent, anti social behaviour is a nuisance and can be distressing to the victims

Sausagenbacon · 13/01/2023 20:20

Well, what would YOU like?

I’m not the poster who suggested the punishments.

They wouldn’t be. What would help them is better social care.

FourTeaFallOut · 13/01/2023 20:23

Jesus, 20 to 30 of the feral little shits throwing stones and muds at people?
