Best decade for pop is 80's

DS (9) has just discovered Erasure. Loves them.

I told him the 80's were the best decade for pop.

DH hard disagrees, claiming the 60's is better.

I clarified - saying I mean proper cheesy dance round-your-handbag pop, rather than RnB, Motown or Rock - which I would agree was sixties gold.

Who is being unreasonable?

Everyone thinks the era that they grew up in the best.

Actually I am ancient 😉...only joking...and the 70s should have been my decade.
I was being a very good girl then and it was the 1980s before I became my own person.
I had the best two things in my life, my children, and lots of fun too.

Thanks for starting this thread OP, I have been reminiscing and playing some of my favourite tracks. I had forgotten how much I loved Anita Baker, what a voice.

For me its the 70s glam rock, motown, ozzie type rock, two tone, reggae, ska so many different genres in one decade

The 80s is both the best, and the worst, decade for music.

Exactly - if I had to have one genre per decade

60s Motown
70s rock
80s pop
90s dance

Mostly agreed! Although I would say 90s was indie and 00s was dance. The best decade was obviously the 90s.

70s rock
80s pop
90s indie
00s dance
10s garbage

Early 80s were fine, but later 80s things started getting strange, image started to become more important than singing/musical ability, and there was a lot of crap hitting the charts, i.e. novelty, sexualisation, etc.

Late 70s were good, early 70s bad.

There was a lot of exceptional talent around late late 70s and early 80s and also a lot of new developments in pop, such as music videos, etc, so quite a revolutionary/evolutionary time period.

So, personally, my favourite period is mid 70s to mid 80s.

80s! Have you listened to the 80sography podcast. Absolutely brilliant…..
