To not want to keep trying wine

BillyNotQuiteNoMates · 13/01/2023 17:05

I don’t drink wine. I don’t like wine. I don’t like the taste. It gives me a hangover.
If I go out,I either drink liqueurs (in quite large quantities) or I stick with soft drinks. I’ve done this for 30 years. But even after years, my friends still want me to “just try this wine”. “You’ll get used to it, if you persevere”. “Let’s share a bottle” and it drives me nuts tbh! I’m old enough to know what I want to drink, thanks.

So just keep saying no. It's really not that deep.

tigger1001 · 13/01/2023 17:20

Yeah just keep saying no. Or ask why you want to "get used to it"? I mean I like a drink (like you, not wine) but I like it because I enjoy the taste. I didn't have to "get used to it"

I think, like anything, you like wine or you don't. No big deal either way. But I would be worried if someone was drinking something they didn't actual like, just to be drinking.

BillyNotQuiteNoMates · 13/01/2023 17:25

I know I’m not being unreasonable to keep saying no, but it’s just starting to piss me off 😂
Maybe it’s my age, but my tolerance is low atm

To be honest I'm at the age where I let my low tolerance for that sort of stuff show. 🙈

Personally I would eye roll every time they said something like that and asks why they care what you drink? Are they too cheap to buy their own so want you to subsidise them?

And if that didn't work, I would be blunt and tell them to just stop commenting otherwise you will go out with other friends.

Thepeopleversuswork · 13/01/2023 18:17

Ignore.

A lot of people fetishise wine. It’s a weird thing: some of it is snobbery and some of it is the gross “wine o’clock” culture.

I love decent wine personally but it’s not a badge of quality. Nowhere is it written that you have to like it.

Wine tastes like vinegar to me.

YANBU to say no.
Can you get a Tshirt printed with "I hate wine" on it? Grin

I might just need to do that
or
“Why drink wine when you can have Baileys?” 😂

I think the t shirt idea works.

Minimochi · 15/01/2023 16:27

You can just say no. I don't usually like wine and it's not something I would choose to drink if given a choice. I make an exception for mulled wine in winter, especially white mulled wine.

LlynTegid · 15/01/2023 16:31

If you say no your decision should be respected.

As someone who has not drunk wine for at least 20 years.

Daffodilis · 15/01/2023 16:33

I spent so long trying to figure out how to enjoy alcohol, until one day I just decided not to bother anymore. I can't believe I was so daft.

pinkfondu · 15/01/2023 16:51

Just do the same back
