to not want to be a governor at dd's school

a while back I was asked if I was interested. ok i said. wrote letter. now it seems a few parents are interested. most likely they will better suited than me.(my thinking) so can i not bother now?
There are other things i can do. eg ask them to start up the PTA again. get involved with a working group to revamp prize giving.(it is a sn school)

I think the most important thing about volunteering for anything is that you actually want to do it. Although sometimes you may have to do things because the group you want to work for needs it to function, if those (the governors) roles can be fulfilled by other more interested people then you should feel free to help out in a role YOU want to have

Let the school know what you'd like to do, I'm sure they'll be happy for your willingness and honesty- the last thing they want is to have a volunteer that takes up space and doesn't live up to expectations because they don't want to be there.

YANBU - being a governor is a big committment, so don't do it unless you really want to! You'll just end up resenting all the meetings and paperwork. Much better to get involved with PTA or prizegiving or something you feel enthusiastic about.

Hah- governors are also being expected to implement single status in their schools i.e. 'award' pay cuts to some and rises to others- nice! It is a very stressful process, and a bad time to become a governor.

YANBU -don't do it.
