A school in Essex has banned hugging, holding hands etc.

I completely understand that that schools don't want pupils making out at school. But hugging??

This seems a step too far. Especially when we're experiencing a bit of a mental health crisis amongst young people. As though the lessons from lockdown have been completely ignored. For some of these kids the only hug they will get all week will be from their friends.

And the idea that pupils need to behave professionally is laughable. School is not work. It's role is to educate and nurture, not churn out worker bees. They are kids not corporate drones.

It's nuts, completely stupid.

It's another load of crap which distracts teachers from being able to teach. They spend so long policing all these rules , how are they supposed to focus on their actual job and make time for supporting kids? It's these kinds of things that show why teaching is becoming so undesirable for many.

This whole 'preparing kids for work' stance is just silly because there's such a wide range of standards across many businesses that a lot of the so called rules end up being pointless for teaching them anything other than to not enjoy school. I don't disagree with all of them but no holding hands and hugging is ludicrous, it's important to teach kids how to build relationships and show empathy, more important as any sort of 'professionalism'.

Oh but that is exacrly what it is; that is the goal.

They are kids not corporate drones.

Oh but that is exactly what they're being molded to become.

So on that alone, you've made their point.
