Putting this in AIBU because it's inspired by another thread (title). It is not a TAAT so please don't make it one or it will get zapped.

I'll start with it is quite small and relatively easy to get around. My home town is actually partly with the boundary of a National park, and you can go from city to countryside within a bus-ride. The landscape is incredible.

Stoic acceptance of queuing.

Cheese. The King of Cheese comes from England (Wensleydale).

Well I live in Scotland and the countryside is simply stunning. I’m in Edinburgh and can easily get to beautiful sandy beaches (like in East Lothian) or up to the mountains. We’re driving to Glencoe for the weekend.

I think UK scenery generally is very pretty.

I like how green England is

I love the humour and quality of television

I like the freedoms and rights we have

I love our theatre and festivals

I love that so many of my loved ones are here

I love that it's a place I mostly feel safe

We have some of the most amazing coastlines in the world:

Giant's Causeway Coast
North Coast 500
Glamorgan Heritage Coast
Jurassic Coast

That's from all four parts of the UK.

We have amazing castles - Carrickfergus Castle in Northern Ireland is a Norman one in excellent condolences.

just remembered: Pies. in all their diverse glory

(daughter's bf has never had a pie in his life. We are going to remedy that soon)

i love how different it can all be within a couple of miles. How different even villages within quite a small radius can be. The accents!

I'll echo all the comments about landscape and culture that are wonderful. I also love the variety of accents. I work internationally, and it's lovely to have a chat someone with a British (any British) accent.

MaryMcCarthy · 12/01/2023 09:55

BBC radio. There's nothing like it anywhere else in the world.

They listen to the BBC world service in numerous countries and that's not even the best one! Imagine if they had Radio 4 or 6 Music or something.

The NHS are currently trying to cure my cancer using a therapy that’s not available in most countries. It’s not even available in all countries in Europe. The US are the leaders in this treatment but if I lived there then I’d have had to sell the house or at least remortgage to pay for it (even with insurance).

We are a nation of animal lovers. Yes there are still many ways we treat animals that I’d like to change but we are more ethical in our farming practices than most other countries.

Cheese. (Though I’ll pitch for a vintage cheddar rather than Wensleydale!)

Historic architecture.

Multicultural society. I’m not going to pretend racism and issues with lack of integration don’t exist - they do. And they need to improve. But compared to other countries I’ve worked with we are much more of a mix of cultures and tend to start with the premise that things should be equal.

Nice idea for a thread

Cathedrals and castles
British humour
Easy to walk around our towns and cities - walk to school, walk/cycle to work, city centre etc.
Countryside walks ending in a nice country pub
In SE England, easy to get to Europe via Eurotunnel or Eurostar to explore other countries
Tea breaks/drinking tea
Football and the English football team
Our children are safe in their schools (no guns)
Historically, the NHS and our welfare state, which I’m hopeful will be restored to former glory

xalo · 12/01/2023 10:09

Football
Country walks
Castles
Lack of dangerous beasties
Fab food
Humour
( Wonder how long this thread will last...)

WyndWych · 12/01/2023 10:19

Our girls can go to school safely, grow up and do whatever job they want.
We are safe from earthquakes, volcanoes, wildfires, hurricanes.
We only have one type of venomous snake and they are few and far between.
A bite from our spiders wont kill us!
We do clean readily available drinking water.
Our healthcare is not dependent on our ability to pay.
We have the freedom to practise whatever religion (or none) we want.
We have the freedom to love who we want without fear of persecution.

Basic rights, I guess, but still not available to many people in the world

Snowflake2023 · 12/01/2023 10:28

A good British summer is the best!
Spectacular countryside
cottages
historic castles and ancient history
ghost stories
A nice cup of tea
After pub curry, really miss that!
How green and lush the country is in spring and summer
Big tall ancient oak trees
London
Theatre
British literature and film making

Thistooshallpsss · 12/01/2023 10:30

Everything you have all said apart from cows!

Brefugee · 12/01/2023 10:33

Ah tea. I live elsewhere. I actually do love and drink coffee. But i always get offered tea. It is not always the best choice.

(I'll fight to the death to assert Wensleydale's superiority, much as i love a good cheddar)

I like that whatever happens, we tend to say "I'll get the kettle on, then"
Yorkshire tea. I won't take backchat on anyone about this. It is wonderful.

Strikes! & nothing like a good brew round the burner on the picket line.

No one does it better.

Yes the French strike too but they smash the place up, we do it peacefully.

Yeah French strikes are rubbish - ours are definitely better.
