To get rage when people use xx months with their child's age

Slightly lighthearted but it also rages me. Just seen a thread on here stating their '12 month old'. The child is 1! Another I read today '25 month old' so that's a 2 year old then.

Why do parents do it? I literally have to calculate the months as I simply have a 'nearly 2 year old' (birthday in April).

Does it bother anyone else? What simple things do you see that give you slight rage?

Yes, why just use 2 words, when 4 would do?

saves the mental division 🤷🏼‍♀️ i think some parents just don’t want to admit their ‘baby’ isn’t a baby any more!

This is very pleasing. I'm going to adopt this system, thank you!!

After 5 years old children themselves will tell you exactly how old they are as accurately as possible e.g. 7 and a half, 12 and 3 quarters.

Whewillmylifebegin · 13/01/2023 15:51

Pretty ablest op.
Once you have had a child with development delay you might understand the importance of months.
Are you purposefully acting like a cunt, or just that lacking in imagination.

TallulahBetty · 13/01/2023 15:51

Because a 'one year old' could be 12 months, or 21 months - a HUUUUUUGE difference at that age.

I'd say kids are at least 5 before the it doesn't make a difference.

23* months, obvs

And sometimes we have perfectly good reasons to want to be accurate.
So fucking ablest.

Yes so say 2 years 8 months or whatever. Nobody is saying there’s never a need to be exact, but doing it in months is needlessly complicated and silly. And ‘ableist’ 🙄

Really, all it takes to call someone a cunt is them saying it’s annoying having to decipher how old a 45 month old child is? Fuck me this place is dramatic.

Or we could use the same language as the medical professionals do and everyone is on the same page.
I'm sorry my child's disability displeases you. Perhaps you need a fucking hobby you nasty piece of work.

Are you for real? I’ve never seen such a ludicrous extrapolation in my life.

Whewillmylifebegin · 13/01/2023 15:58

I see your nasty posts all the time. It's not the first time you have been nasty, ablest and short sighted so can't imagine it is the first time at all.

Cuppasoupmonster · 13/01/2023 15:58

Funny that given I’m disabled myself.

Whewillmylifebegin · 13/01/2023 15:59

And I think a fully grown adult getting the rage about other parents being accurate is ridiculous.
So there you go.

LolaSmiles · 13/01/2023 15:59

Surely it depends on the situation.

If someone is talking to DC's doctor then the specifics matter and speaking in months makes sense.

If someone is talking to someone at a children's party and they ask how old DC is then specifying 43 months isn't any more helpful than saying they're 3 and a half.

On the whole in general conversation unless the months are relevant to the conversation, above 2 most people say half years.

Whewillmylifebegin · 13/01/2023 15:59

Then you should have some fucking empathy.

For what? I’ve never seen such an overreaction on here ever.

Whewillmylifebegin · 13/01/2023 16:01

Maybe think about the actual reasons behind why people do it then. Use your fucking brain.

IAmTheWalrus85 · 13/01/2023 16:01

Crunchymum · 11/01/2023 15:46

It does depend.

It get's silly once they are aged two and above but 13 months is very different from 23 months.

I always used to say "just turned one" or "almost two" though.

Oddly though I always used "18 months"as opposed to "one and a half"

I don’t think that’s odd - 18 months is easier to say and easier to write than one and a half. It’s one less syllable!

TallulahBetty · 13/01/2023 16:01

Wow, this escalated.

gobbyshafto · 13/01/2023 16:01

Are you for real? Completely irrational if you are genuine. Nobody is going to take any notice of you speaking like that👍

Cuppasoupmonster · 13/01/2023 16:02

@LolaSmiles in the party scenario it’s less helpful as still nobody will have a clue how old they are! I just say ‘4 in July’, ‘2 and a half’ or whatever. I remember being asked for my kids age in months by the health visitor when she was 2ish and not having a clue Blush

Whewillmylifebegin · 13/01/2023 16:03

Oh what a surprise. All the parents with no worries have no fucking empathy for those dealing with disabilities. What a fucking surprise. So sorry to crash your little ablest assumptions that we just want our children to be babies forever.

gobbyshafto · 13/01/2023 16:04

It doesn't even make sense to say '38 months' is less "ablest". How would anyone know that your child is disabled by that alone- and how does using months reduce prejudice/male people more understanding??

liveforsummer · 13/01/2023 16:05

Wow how did we get here 😆

Whewillmylifebegin · 13/01/2023 16:06

Because those dealing with developmental delay are more likely to want to be accurate than round up so people judge or make comments. We are more likely to know because we are constantly tracking it.
Must be nice to be so Blaise about other people's lives.
