‘Hello dear’

I’m an instrumental tutor and liaise with lots of parents arranging music lessons for their children. Something which is making me giggle is on more and more occasions some parents are addressing me in written correspondence with ‘hello dear’ and no mention of my actual name. 😂

I always sign off with both my christian and surnames. Most parents will address me with my name I’ve used on the correspondence or just ‘dear miss’.

Is this a cultural? It seems to be only from Asian parents. I have no issue with being called ‘dear’, in fact I think it’s quite endearing, just curious as it’s certainly not a British thing 😁

Yes, it’s common from Chinese people IMO
