It started at the weekend with no appetite. Then a slightly sore throat and shivering uncontrollably with a migraine and now extreme head pain all around the back. Never had this before. Don't think it's covid as am not coughing (yet)

That sounds like the start of the flu bug that's going around. I needed lemsip and an ibuprofen based migraine tablet to stop me from feeling like death, ended up on antibiotics.

Greenshake · 09/01/2023 18:51

I am on Day 6 of this beast. Be warned, it hangs about for ages 😞

Suziesz · 09/01/2023 18:56

You’ve never had a loss of appetite, a temperature and a headache?
It’s only been 2 days, nothing about your symptoms seems that unusual.

Southwig22 · 09/01/2023 18:57

Well it's not abnormal but depends what you mean by extreme pain.
Have you taken paracetamol and ibuprofen?

If concerned call 111.

You can have COVID without a cough

millymollymoomoo · 09/01/2023 19:10

Seems like typical
virus symptoms to me !

BashfulClam · 09/01/2023 19:25

I’ve just got rid of that. Started on Hogmanay, I thought I was going to die on 2nd January when I had a bad fever and paracetamol wasn’t cutting it. I had shivers, sweats, vivid dreams/nightmares when I could sleep as it was fitful, headache, sore throat, cough, nausea, loss of appetite, the soft palate in my mouth felt bruised, limbs ached, joints had shooting pain. After that worst point I started to feel better, I still gave a cough but I feel almost normal (although soooo tired).

Blanketenvy · 09/01/2023 19:29

Sounds like how I felt as I was coming down with Covid, headache is a really common symptom at the moment.

Poppyseed14 · 09/01/2023 19:36

Could well be covid. I had it before Christmas and had all those symptoms plus D&V

iloveyoghurt · 09/01/2023 19:46

My covid was always with no cough but a huge headache, never lost my appetite either

WonderingWanda · 09/01/2023 20:13

Sounds normal for flu, covid and many other viral infections.

TravelWeDo · 09/01/2023 20:14

Sounds exactly like my covid. I could smell and taste throughout, temp elevated but not high and no cough as described, but felt like shit and viral and flu and weak and head coldy and sore throat blah blah blah. Oh the tiredness will last weeks and weeks and weeks

AnotherNameChangeYes · 09/01/2023 20:15

Could be the flu, or any of the normal viruses that were around long before covid.

eleven2023 · 09/01/2023 20:20

Last time I had covid I didn't have a cough till the day after I tested negative! If I'd waited for the cough I would never have known 🤷🏻‍♀️ my symptoms were nausea and a banging headache, chills and aching and a sore throat!

TizerorFizz · 09/01/2023 20:21

Antibiotics won’t do anything for a virus. Don’t waste money having them. Viruses pass. Not great but they go. My COVID was a runny nose, slight sore throat and a bit sleepy for a couple of days. So sit tight and assume it’s flu.

AftersomeAdvice234 · 09/01/2023 20:22

Yep the entire family had this a few weeks ago. It’ll knock you out for a few days. We have a 16 month old so had to take team it through some of it. Take time off and rest as much as you can.

my appetite is still not 100%

Peckhaminn · 09/01/2023 20:22

Had that few weeks back still knocked for 6. Lemon and honey SAVED me!

baroqueandblue · 09/01/2023 20:34

I've got it OP, and it's grim. Viruses generally are. I also find that they tend to enhance anything you've already got going on, eg. chronic pain. Oh the joy 🙄

The headaches with this one are extremely painful and debilitating. I've also felt very depressed with it. Sinutab has helped, as has lemsip. Plenty of fluids, and eat what you can during any windows of appetite. And rest, rest, rest. The fatigue is startling.

Quarantino · 09/01/2023 20:35

Please do test for covid rather than guessing (in a nice way). It's rife at the moment and there's still vulnerable people out there x

Ravageur · 09/01/2023 20:45

it may be covid or it may not - if I had a test left I'd use it but I'm not paying for them. There's no available test for fu anyway (well apart from in hospital)
hope you feel better soon op

SpanishSalsaing · 09/01/2023 20:51

Have you had all the recommended vaccines?

lurchermummy · 09/01/2023 20:51

Yep that's how mine started I'm on day 5 just a headache, absolutely hacking cough and tight wheezy chest now. Plus I'm knackered.

Nothing2lose · 09/01/2023 20:56

Had this in December. Bed ridden (never before have I been) for three days. It wasn’t covid but it was horrible. Worse tbh.

Freezing cold and shivering but had a temp of 40.5 for two and a half days. A terrible headache. Then as the temp went down I got the sweats.

BakedTattie · 09/01/2023 20:58

I had this over Christmas. It’s flu.
