I want to give Harry a hug. Not that it'd do any good for him at this point.

The poor man is unravelling in front of the whole world.

Me too

Yes, it was a trivial argument between two stressed women, but H and M are the ones outing it to the world. Which makes her less forgivable surely?

who outed the version that M made K cry?

MyWillyBrokeTheDogBowl · 10/01/2023 08:40

The alterations were terrible though, if you look at the hem compared to the other dresses and the way it’s been taken in you can see it’s a bad job. Kate was right they did need remade.

And Kate wasn't also rude ??

Based on what has been shared no, she wasn’t rude. I don’t understand why the dresses were only provided for trying on at this late stage and why the arrangements were so slapdash, it was a royal wedding and it wasn’t that bloody short notice. I must be honest, given the way the royal calendar works and the fact that weddings are usually scheduled so carefully, I was very surprised at the timing of this one given Catherine’s pregnancy.

So Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, internationally known who expects one day to be Queen, had a 4 week old baby and a 3 year child who cried when she tried on her bridesmaid's dress. Doubtless Charlotte was expecting something princess-y. Fine, she's 3. Distract her. But here's the thing - she is an actual princess and the wedding will be seen worldwide. The dress is a mess - the shoulders and sleeves are too big, the neck doesn't sit properly, the waist seems... what? too low?, the hem 's a disaster, it doesn't appear to be lined. No way "couture". You could get better in H&M (irony, eh?). I'm not surprised Kate was upset. Sure Meghan's under pressure - a lot of pressure - but it's unhinged to be still bitching about it years later, especially given that Kate apologised with flowers.
I don't know what Meghan's problem with Kate is, but it seems really weird if this is the cause of the distance between them.

It was Harry and Meghan,s wedding not Charlotte,s or kate,s for that matter ,it only now people are dissecting this they have decided the bridesmaid dress was a mess ,I don't recall anyone saying this at the .time

Everyone I know thought wedding dress was poorly fitted on the day - that someone had let Megan down there.

I'd agree till Harry started going on about bridesmaids dresses years later people had mostly missed or ignored bridesmaid dresses but frankly looking back at pictures it clear Kate did have a point.

The whole situation could have been handle better and probably would have been if women had been less stressed out - but there was clearly an issue with all the dresses.

It's Harry bring it all up years later and making people go back and look at the bridesmaids dresses.

the80sweregreat · 10/01/2023 11:47

I thought the bridesmaids etc all looked lovely!
It was a beautiful wedding , but clearly a lot of stress and tension beforehand

BradfordGirl · 10/01/2023 11:54

The bridesmaids looked lovely. At the time Royalists were on here saying how lovely Charlotte looked.
I am sure some of those now saying the dresses looked awful were some of the same posters saying Charlotte looked lovely at the time.

GloomyDarkness · 10/01/2023 12:10

I did wonder at time if that was why there was so much focus on the Meghan veil because the wedding dress wasn't as good as hoped.

The focus on on her wedding dress not the bridesmaids dresses - that's come because many years after the event Harry brought the focus on them.

So posters say oh it was all Kate causing drama - then people post pictures of the bridesmaids dress dress after alternations and its bad - frankly I think it say much more about the Givenchy atelier than either women.

For most people who are not experienced dressmakers ( me) the overall picture was of a lovely wedding with a group of cute bridesmaids and pageboys. At the time one of my friends commented on the hem of Charlotte’s dress being uneven but I didn’t pay much attention .
It is Harry who has turned the focus on to the dresses so now they are being scrutinised and yes, even to me, Charlotte ‘s dress doesn’t fit .

I thought they looked lovely but they might not have before they were altered to fit. Don't suppose we will ever know how bad they were before the alterations.

Totally agree about Givenchy. It's really strange that they would allow that dress on an international stage. It's dreadful.

Ajay the tailor has an article in the Daily Mail today. It makes interesting reading and whilst being very diplomatic it’s obvious the dresses needed more than a nip and a tuck. So much so that Givenchy paid for the alterations. The alterations took 4 days with 4 people working till 4 am each day and until 10 pm the night before the wedding.

I can well imagine how Meghan was touchy about the situation. She must have felt extremely embarrassed and would have been needled by anything Kate said.

urbanbuddha · 11/01/2023 06:55

That's interesting.
To me "couture" means toiles have been made before the fabric for the dress is cut. That doesn't seem to have happened here.

I would have expected it also and was surprised it doesn’t seem to have been the case. But perhaps they don’t do it for children, who knows?

People very much underestimate making alterations to clothing. They seem to think a a nip or tuck here and there and bobs your uncle but the truth is that there’s very much more to it and often the clothes have to be taken apart to quite an extent.

My mum used to have her own tailoring / independent fashion atelier. I grew up there. Fashion and tailoring were basically my childhood... So no, I'm not an expert. But I would still say that I have some understanding based on my personal experiences.

It honestly sounds like new dresses (espescially if based on a pre-existing pattern and with some additional shortcuts) may have been a better idea (based on optimising the outcome with a limited amount of time).

People tend to underestimate the complexity that some alterations require...
