Suffered a really bad flu/cold type virus a week before Christmas and managed to get better. Then Boxing Day the coke came back for vengeance with a fever/aches/bad chest. I was in bed for 5 days. Then NYE I started feeling better. Fast forward a week I'm still suffering from a uncomfortable cough which is making me gag/sick and permanently got a headache with clearly a sinus infection, bad cough and now I've got a tooth infection. Genuinely don't know how to get better?

My cough sounds similar, I think I'm on week 4 now. My 2 year old also has it and I am 37 weeks pregnant. I am absolutely terrified about going into labour still feeling this ill! I saw Dr last week but we got worse so have a tel appointment today

Same here. Bad virus around 16th, k ly started to feel likening was recovering from that Christmas eve. Left me with chesty cough and laryngitis. Then came the sinusitis. Then came the chest infection. I was prescribed antibiotics for the chest infection in case it was bacterial but was advised highly likely to just be viral and antibiotics have no impact on viruses. They made no difference. I've just about got over that, but still have an irritating cough amd I'm exhausted. Just taking it easy to be honest. Paracetamol if I'm feeling achey, trying to eat well, lots of vitami supplements, not exerting myself and getting plenty of early nights. Think it's just been a bad luck run of illnesses and it'll take me a while to be fully over it.

I had the flu at the end of October. Absolutely knocked me for six.
For me, it was the heavy cold that was the last thing to go. It was probably 4-5 weeks start to finish.

Antibiotics won't help if viral but viral infections often lead to bacterial infections. Hard to know for sure which is why some docs will prescribe as a precaution. Key signs of bacterial are colour of phlem, temp etc.... All I know is I started to improve when I started on antibiotics and steroids but could have been either that worked. I did also have eye infection that was bacterial. It's been a fun Christmas - not.

Gosh! I'm so sorry all of you have been so poorly! So so so many people have had the same thing and still weeks later really unwell.
I didn't go to the GP as it had been three weeks and I had the time off Xmas to recoup but I'm still very unwell. Luckily my tempt has dissipated, but the cough hasn't improved. Sometimes it's chesty, other times its dry but makes me physically sick. My phlegm and snot is currently yellow/green. Headaches are just horrendous, I feel constantly knackered but can't sleep. Boss even said I sound like shit but when I mention the doctors I'm told I can't WFH.
Hope you lovely ladies all get better soon. It's truly awful never known so many people to be unwell! X

But it shouldnt be about working from home OP, you need time off and you’re legally entitled to it!

What’s the worst that will happen if you call in sick tomorrow (apart from your boss ‘being a bit funny with you’). Genuine question.

And in the nicest possible way, if you’re phlegm is yellow/green then you’re likely spreading something v unpleasant around your office with coughs and sneezes.

You need to get antibiotics from a doctor. Please phone tomorrow.

AdelaideRo · 09/01/2023 22:14

Me too.

Ill for 2 weeks here. Been off work a week. Tried to go back today. Was in bed by lunchtime.

Passthecake30 · 09/01/2023 22:16

I had it for a month, I kept making myself log on (wfh) and pushing through even though I kept being told to go off sick!. I needed up needing a week off with a chest infection needing steroids and antibiotics and then Xmas week being totally spoilt too following that, as it took ages to ease and I had a lot of rib pain from coughing so much I was sick. I think you can push and push yourself to a point but if you don’t get meds, and have a rest, you could potentially get much worse.

i've been ill on and off since October - a series of coughs, colds and chest infections. Never known anything like it.
