To be fed up of supermarket low stock

BradfordGirl · 08/01/2023 18:55

Since Christmas stock is so low in the supermarkets. I have tried different supermarkets and going at different times, it makes no difference. Today I had to go two supermarkets so I could buy bread, milk and ham - so hardly an exotic shopping list. The supermarkets all have some large empty spaces in their fruit and veg section and lots of other things missing. And trying to get eggs is not easy.
The only supermarket with good stock is the co-op. I went in as I had been a few places trying to get eggs and was a bit taken aback to see shelves fully stocked. Unfortunately it is quite expensive.
But I am getting fed up of all the other supermarkets having permanently low stock.

@EwwSprouts It seems to vary a lot around the country. I am fed up of it.

There's a lot of people off sick at the moment in every industry. That won't be helping either

Think some folks squirrelled eggs away at Xmas. There was no shortage at the wholesalers. But you had to buy five dozen.

BradfordGirl · 10/01/2023 19:20

Nobody squirrels eggs away. They have a limited shelf life.

As i said earlier, i shop a lot in France, France has a retirement age of 62, the UK 66/67.

I assume they also get Flu and Covid, so why are we suffering with Labour shortages?

We work for far longer, we should have a labour surplus.

We have a LOT of people off long term sick for years.

We have shocking numbers of people off on long term sick - 9 million working age people are out of work and not looking for employment.

They are all sick all 9 million of them. That's 1 in 7 of the population.

I’m not sure if you’re being sarcastic but I really don’t believe they’re all too unwell to work.

I remember seeing people posting on Twitter that they would be happy to eat beans on toast for the rest of their lives as it was worth it because the Brexit vote had won. So I guess this is what they voted for...although they might not be able to get any bread to toast at the moment...

Post a link to all these tweets then @BeginningToLookALotLike . I have certainly never seen anyone saying such things. So I would LOVE to see these tweets where people are saying they are happy to live on beans on toast forever...... 🙄

As I said earlier, some stores don't HAVE any issues, just a few of them. So Brexit has fuck-all to do with it.

I don’t believe 1 in 7 people of working age are so unwell that they cannot work. It’s that simple.

JenniferBooth · 10/01/2023 20:16

Quelle surprise from @Cuppasoupmonster there

JenniferBooth · 10/01/2023 20:20

9 million working age people are out of work and not looking for employment

"Carers UK estimates that the number of unpaid carers has risen to 10.6 million (Carers UK, Carers Week 2022 research report). This means that 1 in 5 adults in the UK are currently providing care. Every year, 4.3 million people became unpaid carers – 12,000 people a day (Petrillo and Bennett, 2022)"

Are you also going to deny that all 10 million are caring. Maybe they should down tools See what happens to your NHS then.

@Cuppasoupmonster seems to be one of those that wants eveyone out at work yet also wants family carers to be available at a moments notice.

Not sarcastic just shocked by the figure

Cuppasoupmonster · 10/01/2023 20:23

@JenniferBooth what on Earth are you talking about?! I haven’t mentioned carers once.

So between carers and the sick that's 20 million adults unavailable for work. Jakers I had no idea

Oysterbabe · 10/01/2023 20:23

My two closest supermarkets haven't had cream crackers in for weeks.

Im guessing a lot of carers also work because that’s so astronomical it can’t be true, surely?

EwwSprouts · 10/01/2023 20:26

This answers the sickness question. Basically 75% employed, 21% choosing economic inactivity (mainly heading towards retirement), 4% unemployed seeking work.

You're not the first to bemoan this fact. www.grocerygazette.co.uk/2022/11/15/jacobs-cream-crackers/

They've been on strike

EwwSprouts · 10/01/2023 20:29

I think from the page I linked above around 10m of working age not working for whatever reason.

JenniferBooth · 10/01/2023 20:30

Had a packet of Jacobs Cream Crackers in at Christmas. They have a horrible texture to them now Not the same.

BeginningToLookALotLike · 10/01/2023 21:14

WhileMyGuitar you are welcome to trawl back through Twitter to 2016 with a 'beans on toast Brexit' search. There were definitely tweets posted by die hard Brexiteers who didn't seem to care about anything or anyone else.
