How can this be fun?!

I love mountain biking and happy to do it in the rain! I even commute to work on the road in the nicer weather. So I’m not against road bikers.

But how can riding your bike in the pissing rain with 15 other people be fun? Esp due to there being soo many of them, it means that they end up having a good line of cars behind them and in between them.

How can this be fun?!

So something is only fun if it's done the way you think it should be done ?

The way you do it is fun but how can it possibly be fun for them cos there's more people ?

What a weird post

Different people find fun in different things why not try it & see, maybe you will have a laugh, maybe not but that won't make it any less fun for them.

Unless of course you're actually trying to start an argument about riders on the road & being stuck in traffic behind them??

The traffic thing doesn’t bother me. I live in the Lake District. It comes with driving on the road. I’m also an occasional road biker myself.. which I mentioned in my op

Doesn't look like much fun to me - but then, most people wouldn't choose to stagger around in the mud looking after horses in the pissing rain either, so each to their own.

That’s true actually… But atleast there’s no cars going 60 past you in the opposite direction splashing puddles up at you

It’s like most outdoor activities, isn’t it? You don’t do them for the parts where it’s pissing down with rain and you’re cold and fed up and hungry; you do them for the parts where you reach the summit of a mountain with barely a breath left to take and then the clouds break and the view is as if from an illustration; or where you get to the end of a winding trail and realise you broke your PB for a segment; or for the moment when you suddenly realise that the rain has stopped and you can no longer only hear the white noise of the wind through your ear mufflers rand what you can here is the rush of a stream and a hovering bird of prey calling for its mate; or as others have said, for the camaraderie en route and the pub at the end where you reflect on the journey and laugh at your friend who fell in the bog / got soaked by a puddle.

As an outdoor instructor.. I get this!

Sometimes doing something hard is an accomplishment. It feels good to be outside your comfort zone. Lots of benefits.

I get that! I do enjoy pushing myself, particularly outdoors. But in this sense I would n’t do it with soo many people as it increases the risk that isn’t necessary

Please tell me you aren't taking photos while you're driving!

Yes I am!…. Of course I’m not 🙄

This post boils down to someone not understanding people have different preferences and ideas of fun.

Lord help us

That’s not true. I get it. Is the group of 15 I don’t get.

I'd love to be one of those people that could do this - but I'd probably spend the entire time cycling screaming at any cars and shitting myself hahaha

I do however love a good walk in the pissing down rain!! Clears my head!
So maybe that's why they enjoy it?? I just know I wouldn't trust myself on any amount of wheels I'll stick to my feet 🤣🤣🤣

You don’t get how people enjoy the company of others?

Are they enjoying each other’s company though?!

Not the same as cycling but I used to be part of a running club and we went out in all weathers. There was something really refreshing about running in the rain, I used to love it. Best part was always getting in a hot shower at the end and feeling really accomplished 😄

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/01/2023 18:48

I ride with a cycling club. We have a very busy life, and between 2 DC, full time job and and elderly and unwell parent, the times I can get out are golden, even when it's pee'ing down. I'm sure I can't be the only one.

Heartbreaktuna · 08/01/2023 20:53

I love it. It's a different kind of work out. Then after, peeling off my soaking wet clothes and jumping in the shower after is bliss. Feeling your aching muscles relax in the steam. Also some people live in Scotland....where the rain is a permanent feature 😀

HoneyIShrunkThePizza · 08/01/2023 21:06

Similar to running club. It feels safer as there are more of you, so more visible, you've made the commitment so you turn up rather than Zwift it's too tempting to sit on the sofa, and you get a catch up after. I find it quite exhilarating exercising in the rain.

The photo was very clearly taken from where a driver would be though. Did you shove your phone in front of the driver’s face in order to take the picture?

It’s an odd concept for a post anyway. People enjoy things you don’t enjoy, it’s not rocket science.

Yes… I blocked the driver’s view and we nearly ploughed in to the cyclists
