So thinking of writing a books on increasing self confidence, self reliance power of positivity, promoting resilience, creating contentment, maintaining compassion and kindness without becoming a doormat etc just few ideas.... Does anything think there's a demand.....

So would just like to help/ support people to be able to do the same. That's it really.

This sounds more 'discover (re-discover?) your spirituality ' than self help. I'd suggest thinking about your target audience....I'm sensing you're targeting 'lost souls' looking for purpose and meaning through self awareness and connection. If there's a specific faith element, rather than broader spirituality that needs to be made clear. As an atheist I'd be annoyed to find that 2 chapters in I was directed to surrender myself to god.

Salrose123 · 09/01/2023 12:41

@JudgeRudy thank you, I appreciate your responses.

There were some other great responses but can't seem to see them something about an app, and someone recommending a life changing book.

People are empowered enough its just a lot of the time they cant be arsed.

If you gave people 2 options:

  1. I will take care of everything for you.
  2. I teach you to be able to take care of everything yourself.

option 1 will be the overwhelming preference for vast majority of people.

Salrose123 · 09/01/2023 12:50

@whattodo1975 that's very true, part of it would be dealing or suggesting techniques for improving motivation and allowing more creativity in life.

Do you think you have all the answers to the struggles of human existence, OP, simply because you have discovered that a positive approach works for you?

IceStationHorse · 09/01/2023 17:16

Your whole tone suggests that this may not be the right area for you.

Salrose123 · 09/01/2023 17:25

As a matter of fact I do. Thanks for brilliant responses.
I think some people have forgotten the actual question!
That's mumsnet for you.
Hope you all have the best evening.
@IceStationHorse yes of course :) you are right probably as always

@Kanaloa i think fiction can be a powerful way of challenging perceptions and raising awareness, thank you for your encouragement much appreciated xx

People have been saying that about fiction ever since fiction started being published. You're not going to get a book out of that.

Historical truth or truth in general is very subjective.

However, are they actually any universal truths we can all agree on?

Apart from “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.”?

Salrose123 · 09/01/2023 17:34

Oh dear lol, I genuinely didn't think this post could be so amusing.

Thank you for making me chuckle xx

Manual on attempts of being passive aggressive then maybe? ...

I have to say, my fave book when it comes to outlook on things was The subtle art of not giving a fuck. Read it year ago. Brilliant imho (personal taste I guess but some things really made sense when I looked around)

Salrose123 · 09/01/2023 18:07

Interestingly enough I was reading his blog and found it very interesting..

Certainly people do care too much what other people think...

I think the market for this type of book is very heavily saturated. I suspect it's very difficult to be successful unless you have one of two things:

  • a track record of lengthy experience in a related professional career which you can draw on for success stories/situations. Something like an experienced counsellor or psychotherapist or some other expert in mental health. They'll be able to write about people they've worked with and how their advice/support/guidance has helped them through situations and what techniques they've used, and why they work scientifically.
  • a well-known or unique story of resilience/perseverance/overcoming obstacles that people will be interested in, and which can illustrate your points. An example which I found really powerful would be someone like Richard McCann, who is a fantastic motivational speaker (his mum was one of the Yorkshire Ripper's victims, he speaks to schools about how it affected him) and who is very inspiring.

I tend to think that if someone doesn't have one or other of those two, then they're at very high risk of being just one more voice churning out platitudes without anything to back it up.

Salrose123 · 09/01/2023 18:31

Help others, be kind, be compassionate, be respectful, be sincere . I think people try to justify and give themselves permission for the exact opposite. Life seems to one big competition, where people just want to do "better" than others.

But if you want your life to get better it's simple, be grateful, try to help and support those around you even if just wishing them the best, is that really a terrible thing to encourage?

This post is pointless obviously and I know nothing. You all have perfect lives, and perfect solutions already and don't need your life to get any better.

Fair enough but it's my humble view.

OP posts:
Salrose123 · 09/01/2023 18:33

*some people.
Some people are also very kind caring and compassionate to strangers and those closest to them.

OP posts:
Salrose123 · 09/01/2023 18:35

I need help to improve myself because I know I am far far from perfect.

I do believe that no one is actually perfect.

OP posts:
Salrose123 · 09/01/2023 18:37

I do have intentions to help more practically in the community too.

The book will have to written.I

@ShinyMe thank you I appreciate your post, I will look him up.

I am very aware I would have to do extensive critical research and probably read more than 1000 books by experts to get a better understanding of the topic.

I am actually prepared to do this.

People have been saying that about fiction ever since fiction started being published. You're not going to get a book out of that.

I don’t think the op was suggesting that she’ll get a book out of that comment. She asked what I wrote, I said mainly fiction (so I have no experience in the area she is interested in) and she posted that encouraging comment as a response to me, saying she thinks writing like mine (fiction) can also be powerful. She hasn’t suggested she’ll get a full book out of that comment in any way whatsoever.

Salrose123 · 18/01/2023 20:12

@Kanaloa thank you for understanding what I was trying to say x
