So thinking of writing a books on increasing self confidence, self reliance power of positivity, promoting resilience, creating contentment, maintaining compassion and kindness without becoming a doormat etc just few ideas.... Does anything think there's a demand.....

I was asking the historian but thank you your response is much appreciated. Have a great night :)

Historical copy editor. I'm pretty well placed to answer your flippant question.

Salrose123 · 08/01/2023 22:14

@AGoodDayForSomebodyElseToDie brilliant good for you, thanks for your response, have great night

I think you'd be a lot, lot better off taking steps to help people in a practical way in your community. By all means work on your writing skills, but practically speaking, you don't have anything to offer anyone in the form of a book right now.

Salrose123 · 08/01/2023 22:22

@astronewt yes brilliant idea thanks :)

Noted @BitOutOfPractice but who's version of history?

You realise that’s a question that could take a book to answer in itself right?

I’ll settle for saying the version that you have thoroughly researched and critically analysed. Not a theory you read, or an idea you have, about “in the past”.

Kanaloa · 09/01/2023 09:15

Salrose123 · 08/01/2023 21:29

That's a very good point @Onnabugeisha about how we practically learn from historical events...

@Kanaloa yes I do write drafts and then cringe and delete at times....What do you write about if you don't mind me asking?

Oh I do creative writing, short stories mostly, so very different. No experience of writing self help/religious type texts. But I still think if you enjoy the process of writing you have literally nothing to lose.

Salrose123 · 09/01/2023 10:47

@Kanaloa i think fiction can be a powerful way of challenging perceptions and raising awareness, thank you for your encouragement much appreciated xx

@BitOutOfPractice I think History in some cases can turn into glorified story telling, and so many viewpoints conveniently left out in History.... Unless I can time travel back in the future and see it for myself can I really believe all the biased perspectives....probably not although grateful to see alot more alternatives viewpoints and historical perspectives are coming to light now....

Salrose123 · 09/01/2023 11:01

@BitOutOfPractice thanks for your suggestions, I would be a fool to write a book without fully researching and critically evaluating anything let alone historical events .. Again none of my book was actually posted on this thread lol

The word "empowered" makes me scream.
I would never read anything written by anyone who uses that kind of management-consultant language.

Salrose123 · 09/01/2023 11:05

I was a History Teacher for over three years, you only study viewpoints of a minority of society so how can you rely on that solely....

Yes, call it "magic is within you" and make it into an allegory using a young child, a quest and a sage pet.

Only joking!

I actually love this stuff. In particular I'm enjoying Atomic Habits and Mel Robbins at the moment, even if they are a bit American.
I like the idea of it being only a bit of effort, making everything a bit better every day seems more achievable than rehashing my whole life (which although tempting seems a) unlikely and b)like a lot of effort).

What I am after is the "lazy arse guide to being a bit less idle and a bit more effective", can you write that please?

BitOutOfPractice · 09/01/2023 11:22

That’s why I mentioned critical analysis when it comes to history. That was the whole point of what I was trying to say. Obviously not very well.

So are you a history or English teacher? If it’s the latter you might want to brush up on ellipses 😬

Salrose123 · 09/01/2023 11:26

@Nowthatlovehasperished haha great title.. I definitely will try!

@BitOutOfPractice I can't be bothered brushing up my ellipses for mumset sorry!

Historical truth or truth in general is very subjective.

However, are they actually any universal truths we can all agree on?

Salrose123 · 09/01/2023 11:37

Yes @NoNotHimTheOtherOne maybe "empowerment" could be seeing as patronising, increasing autonomy would perhaps be better...

greatergood.berkeley.edu/article/item/world_happiness_report_finds_that_people_are_feeling_worse

(some research)

OP posts:
astronewt · 09/01/2023 12:02

That data goes back to 2005. You're making comparisons to decades and hundreds of years ago. That specific dataset is also three years out of date. It's almost like you googled for proof that people are less happy than they used to be and grasped at the first straw that came up.

Seriously, you can absolutely start to try and draft a book with your message to the world, but before you put any money into self-publishing it, you need to put a lot of work into refining your message, your research, and your writing. In the meantime, there are many good causes around you that could really use some willing hands, where you would be having a positive impact on people's lives immediately.

Salrose123 · 09/01/2023 12:15

@astronewt thanks for your reply. A bit personal but may I ask if you are completely satisfied, content and happy with your life?
And I truly am very happy for you if you are.

I would brush up on research skills because happiness index is available even for March 22 end. And if you are writing for uk, uk reports are available.
I don't mean to be tude but this sounds a bit like "i want to make and selly own pottery products. Erm, What is kiln?
