I try to make an effort with a group of ladies but a few of them seem depressed at the moment. I asked if anyone fancied meeting up for lunch at the end of the month and a few ignored my message. We are all busy, working parents, me included.

Id reply with, no thanks, if I didn't want to or, i'll let you know, is fine but they've just seen it and ignored it. I would have to reply, aibu?

I won't be asking them again.

What ???

Have you made that diagnosis from the fact that some people replied in separate messages and some people haven't replied ?
I've inferred this is quite a big group ? Maybe people are waiting to see what others are doing ? Maybe people need to check if they can get time off work or baby sitters or someone to look after the dog, or are waiting for an appt themselves?

It's not about the time it takes, it's about the presumption that I'm expected to respond. It's not even an invite really, it's someone sharing an idea (that you have no interest in).
Now a phone call or a specific invite for me...yes I'd respond (though not immediately)

How rude of you. Your name is very appropriate. Of course you should reply
It takes seconds and stops people having to second guess themselves when multiple people have this attitude and no one replies which is exactly what has happened to the op

JudgeRudy · 09/01/2023 12:10

We shall disagree. As I said for me it's not about the time. If someone wants a conversation with me, do so.

I'm with you, OP. It takes seconds to reply. Nobody is that busy FFS.

HotDogJumpingFrogHaveACookie · 09/01/2023 19:03

When did you message? Like how long had it been since you mentioned it? Did you specifically ask for replies?

Ineedtosleep79 · 09/01/2023 19:06

Was this a group chat message or did u message them individually? Some ppl are shit/thoughtless.

Me too. It's just common courtesy to say no I can't make it or can i let you know etc rather than just ignore someone.
