Inspirational people, would it be wrong to ask the question...

Hi, my daughters year 3 class have been given 3 inspirational people as their class table names. Mahatma Ghandi, Muhammed Ali and Ru Paul. She is on the table of Ru Paul and this week's homework is to research why he is inspirational.
I don't know very much but after a quick google have found things like fundraising for aids and being proud of who you are and encouraging others to do the same.

Also lots of info around transgender and school have used transgender and drag queens as one in the same. We are always open and honest and chat through anything she asks but am I being unreasonable to ask the teacher why this person has been chosen? She told us none of the class knew who he was

I’d be asking why no females had been chosen!!

Circumferences · 07/01/2023 21:53

Isn't he a drag queen? Isn't drag sexist shit that young girls should be kept away from?

Sorry, actually he might not be a DQ himself but certainly presents a DQ TV show. Adult entertainment stuff.

I'd not be happy about that at all.

Mandela
Dr King
JFK
Malala
Geta (not my choice personally)

There are celebs, and there inspirational. Clearly their standards are looooow.

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/01/2023 21:55

No women? I'd certainly be having a word with the teacher about that.Hmm

Devakai · 07/01/2023 21:55

Just cementing my choice to homeschool...

RambamThankyouMam · 07/01/2023 21:56

FFS.

It's bloody everywhere. Drag. Why??

It's modern-day minstrelsy but with women as the target.

Enough!

determinedtomakethiswork · 07/01/2023 21:57

Ru Paul? Inspirational? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

PiccalilliPops · 07/01/2023 21:57

I thought you were going to say no females had been selected. I don’t know much about Ru Paul and any philanthropic work but not sure about drag queens.

Kellybelly87 · 07/01/2023 22:03

Yes absolutely no females I did also think that! I actually think they also have Marcus Rashford.
So would you discuss concerns with the teacher?

agree it’s crap and not inspirational. Can she work on someone else? I’d pick a woman of historical importance and go with that instead!! X

DuncanBiscuits · 07/01/2023 22:09

That’s like me being told Danny LaRue was inspirational when I was at school.

Which would be fucking ridiculous. What is going on?!

PiccalilliPops · 07/01/2023 22:13

I wouldn’t discuss with the teacher, I’d just help DC with the research of a female and present that. Sure the teacher doesn’t care who, it’s the learning process.
