To ask about Etsy

Feeling the pinch after Xmas and want to start selling things I don’t need. Not happy about using EBay since they split from PayPal as you need to provide DOB now.
Can Etsy be used for selling things you already have? ie not that you have made yourself?
Do I need to give my DOB?
Is it a good site for selling random stuff like clothes I don’t need or items I don’t need?
If not, any more suitable sites? I have some coins I could sell also.
Thanks

Etsy is meant to be for handmade items

Iwasjustasking · 07/01/2023 18:53

Etsy is for hand made items, try shpock

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 07/01/2023 18:55

Are you thinking of Vinted??

Calmestofallthechickens · 07/01/2023 18:55

I have never seen second hand clothes on Etsy. What about vinted?

JudithHarper · 07/01/2023 18:55

Last time I tried to sell on Etsy, they wanted a scan of your passport. No thanks.

Great- I’ll have a look at Vinted and shpock. I’m such a luddite that I don’t have a printer- I used to post stuff I was selling on EBay in hand written envelopes or parcels and it was fine.
Would this work? Or would I definitely need a printer ?
Thanks

Yep not Etsy, vinted is the one you want. Or depop is it's just clothes!

CousinKrispy · 07/01/2023 19:03

I still handwrite labels when I sell on eBay.

Unicorn717 · 07/01/2023 19:06

As long as the address on it is readable I'm not sure why you couldn't hand write them.

Vinted without a printer is possible, but you will need to modify all the postage options to remove those that require labels.

For some options you can use a QR code at the drop off point, but it’s tricky to be sure that it’s going to work
(eg if you buy normal Evri postage online then you can select ‘print in store’ but Vinteds Evri option will give you a label that you need to print)

Royal Mail options will allow you to go to the post office with a hand written label, but you get the standard online discount price which could be less than then counter price, and depending on item category the RM postage amount charged and given to you might be for a smaller/lighter package then you actually need

Christmascracker0 · 07/01/2023 19:08

Vinted is good but requires a printer if you use Evri (and possibly Royal Mail??) for postage. So just make sure you turn them off and use other methods!

I would say that eBay could be the easiest route, and you have full control over postage

There’s possibly the need to verify your details at some point through all outlets
