I thought it would be a good place to talk about my problems and feelings with other like minded people.
I told my friend that I had done my first post the other day and she asked me what my nickname was etc.
I refused to tell her thinking that this is the whole point of having a nickname so that you remain anonymous. plus there are some things going on in my life that I would want advice on but don't necessarily want to discuss as "myself". Does this make sense?

DH knows my MN name and a few others could probably guess it, but I am an unashamed name changer for more sensitive issues (or if I want to bitch about family/friends winding me up).

blueskyandsunshine

Nooo, not ashamed, but have posted some fairly gossip-worthy stuff on here in my time and if RL people knew I would die of shame.

helenhismadwife · 05/02/2008 16:14

I think anyone who knew me in rl could identify me but I dont tend to post anything embarassing, but I would never tell anyone in rl my mn name

Ineedacleaner · 05/02/2008 17:55

OP you will now def need to change your name cause if she reads this she will know and your name does give quite a bit away cause we know where you are from now.

Anyone who knows how untidy I am will know me anyway DH knows I post on here but has no idea what my name is, a few friends know I do as well but again no idea what my name is. I am not so bothered about being anon because if it was something sensitive I could name change. I have met one person on here who it came up we lived close by and it turned out we knew each other already. Doubt most poeple around here would see the point in MN though.

YANBU. I managed to really upset a friend last year, without even telling her my posting name - she found my comments on one thread, guessed it might be me, and swiftly searched for all my other messages - sadly I had moaned about something we'd had a fight about years ago, and she was madder than I could have imagined, and started a thread of her own about how her friend had posted hurtful comments etc etc etc. I read it, slowly turning very purple, and then realised my photo was on my profile so I couldn't even lie! arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

We are still friends, or so she tells me

Motto: Never, ever recommend MN to someone you have secretly moaned about on here!!!!!

Flllightattendant · 06/02/2008 13:32

...it was quite funny the number of people who came onto her thread, saying 'oh my god I think it might be me!' and then, well it was me...

Hassled · 06/02/2008 13:38

I won't even tell my DH - which I think pisses him off. Part of me feels I'm being petty, but I did once have a bit of a rant about him (an AIBU - and I definately was)and I'd hate for him to see it. Plus it's sort of like reading a diary.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 10/02/2008 10:58

Lol my DH often says to me 'what is it thats so interesting about ''mums dot net'', can I see?'

No way!

kindersurprise · 10/02/2008 11:23

My DH and some of my friends know I use MN but don't know my name. I recommended MN to my Mum (Gransnet) and she recognised me from my posts. I don't mind her knowing, if I need to moan about her (which I don't offen need to do, she is lovely) then I can always namechange.

I would not tell anyone else though.
