I've done everything possible and still aged

Cheeeeeeese · 06/01/2023 15:27

I don't drink, never smoked, wear spf50 every day, moisturiser every day, use retinol, tretinoin, and so on. I sleep well 90% of the time, no children etc.
My diet isn't perfect, but this is all I can think of.
Despite this, I've still got crows feet, lines under my eyes and dark circles.
I am only 31 but presume the worst is yet to come. It's frustrating to already feel that I'm looking 'tired' at this age.
I've always looked after my skin well, yet I've still got these signs around my eyes already.

All I can think of is that they don't actually work? I'm using prescription strength products too. Does anyone else feel like this?

Im 47 and once I get my hair coloured (for the first time in 3 years) soon I know I’ll get people younger than me thinking I’m younger than them. My 33 year old neighbour thought I was younger than her

🤦‍♀️ You realise people say this to be polite? I say it whenever someone tells me their age. It’s to stop things being awkward because what else are you meant to say? They look older?

Thanks for that tip, Rene. I've just had some myself, and I can see some improvement already - here's a selfie taken two minutes ago:

That's a fucking filter! No way you look younger than I do!

Cheeeeeeese · 06/01/2023 18:34

For the record, my BMI is 21.4 so not underweight, I'll try the fake tan and other suggestions, I'm not obsessed with ageing but looking tired when I'm not is annoying, there's nothing wrong with that. I'm also suspicious that 95% of posters here apparently have zero wrinkles aged 50 😂

I am 500 and people try to give me dummies and change my nappy!

ily0 · 06/01/2023 18:38

OP I really would recommend an LED mask (current body or Omnilux) there are tonnes of studies on the benefits of red light to your skin. It worked so well for me.

PifandHercule · 06/01/2023 18:38

Take good quality collagen tablets from at least 4 sources and drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day.

Mojoj · 06/01/2023 18:39

It's all in the genes. And if all else fails, there's always Botox😃

Yes genetics I am afraid. Also skin creams are good but they don’t actually stop you getting wrinkles. There are treatments that do work though in my experience such as ipl laser ect.

Nameneeded · 06/01/2023 18:49

Genes play a large part.

Doliveira · 06/01/2023 18:52

Maybe the refined sugar and white bread isn’t doing you any favours.
maybe you don’t drink enough water.
maybe you need to boost your electrolytes.
maybe you need a few months of milk thistle.
maybe you work at a desk too close to a radiator, sleep too close to a radiator,
and have dehydrated skin.
maybe where you live is windy and you are a tad weather beaten.
maybe you need to use hydration spray to moisturise, LRP do a good one.

I'm 45, never drank, smoked, did drugs, used tretinoin, spf50 every day, I'm also vegetarian, never sun bathed etc. I don't have crows feet or fine lines and don't have dark circles, look tired. I won't say I look 20 years younger but most women my age have noticable lines, pigmentation, sagging etc and even women in their 20s have crows feet.

I think I did a lot right as above to keep my skin no botox, filler or surgery though I do have my little beauty secrets. I think I have good skin genes and then good habits on top of that. Probably genes are key.

Tretinoin used correctly will indeed prevent wrinkles.

You made the mistake of posting on MN which consistently seems to have an extraordinarily high number of posters constantly mistaken for being 10 years younger than they are

It’s so cringe. “I still get ID’d!” Yeah when I worked in a bar I would ID 40 year olds who looked their age as I didn’t want to get hit with a fine.

Haters are going to hate 💁🏻‍♀️

LooLooLemon · 06/01/2023 19:03

It’s genetic. I’m early 40s and look a lot younger. Similar to you I don’t sunbathe, have never smoked, rarely drink, eat a lot of sugar 😆 I also use Simple moisturiser, which annoys my MIL as she spends thousands on face creams and fillers and looks her age!!

BitterTits · 06/01/2023 19:04

I haven't done any of those things and just look my age (because I am my age!)

Wibblingalittie · 06/01/2023 19:04

Can tret not oniu prevent wrinkles , but lessen those in situ ? Am quite old , and new to tret( wished knew about years ago ) .

ichundich · 06/01/2023 16:25

I find it a bit hard to believe that you look "aged" at 31.

I agree. How you see yourself may not be how others see you

Echobelly · 06/01/2023 19:09

OP - stop looking at your face 2 inches away from the mirror for lines and imperfections (which is what you are probably having to do to see them at 31). No one is looking at your face like that. No one thinks you look old, stop looking for signs you are 'looking old' and accept how you are now and that will age. It's really not that dreadful, this 45-year-old crone can tell you! 🤗

Folkishgal · 06/01/2023 19:14

Aging is normal, but I think as pp have said it's down to the luck of the draw and genetics unfortunately. I'm about to turn 30, have a one year old, drink, partied a lot, eat not the best diet, never moisturise or wear SPF and I'm a lazy couch potato. I was IDd for alcohol free gin last week in Asda, much to my annoyance as I had no ID on me 🙃

However my ex-mil, she looks after herself, fit and healthy etc... She's 50 looking like she is pushing on 75. However she has aged so gracefully, she is absoloutley stunning, she doesn't mind and has accepted it's who she is.

Hope your doing okay ❤️

Lollypop701 · 06/01/2023 19:25

Tear trough fillers can help with under eyes… do I think you need them, probably not and you are being very harsh on yourself as no one looks 20 forever. I haven’t had it btw, just normal retinol from 40 ish. No one wants to look like Madonna does now, so don’t get hooked on the young forever shite that is social media photos that are not real.

maeveiscurious · 06/01/2023 19:27

I'm curious how old you look

Abitlosttoday · 06/01/2023 19:54

This is the most irritating thread I have ever seen on here. You all look your age. It's preposterous how prepared we are to lie to ourselves about looking our (terribly unacceptable) real ages. It really says something about how much of a travesty it is seen as if a woman has the temerity to get older. We need to be bigger than this. It's hard - we're surrounded by messages of eternal youth being the only acceptable route - but if you don't rethink it and truly accept yourself as you age, you'll waste years focused on the wrong thing.

For info, I'm 43 but frequently look and feel 78 because of my small children, and, you know, time.
