AIBU to say this is not safe to eat?

My partner planned to make an easy slow cooker curry today. When I came home yesterday, he had the raw chicken thighs in the fridge along with the curry sauce he is cooking it in (all this in the internal bowl of slow cooker might I add, so he could just pop it in the main slow cooker this morning to put on).

I have said I don't feel safe eating that when raw meat has been swimming in it all night, even if it is thoroughly cooked through.

YABU - DP is right, its safe
YANBU - do NOT eat the curry

This reminds me of the thread where the OP was freaking out because her husband was COOKING THE POTATOES IN THE RAW CHICKEN JUICES!!

Please explain this one, I really can't figure it out 😳

Op, it's fine!

Spenn · 05/01/2023 17:33

What do you think will happen to raw chicken that's been kept in the fridge before cooking it?

How do you think you marinate meat?

TangledWebOfDeception · 05/01/2023 17:33

@BliainNua He was cooking chicken pieces and potatoes in a tray bake, IIRC.

Divebar2021 · 05/01/2023 17:35

OP the main issue with chicken is keeping it cold and good hygiene around the chopping boards. There is no problem with the chicken sitting in the sauce… it will help deepen the flavour.

Thanks @TangledWebOfDeception
I'm obviously a bit stupid today, I my head it was a pot of chicken juice for boiling spuds 😆😳

TangledWebOfDeception · 05/01/2023 17:36

Ah @TheChinkOfaGlass i feel bad now as you're going to get comment after comment taking the piss. I guess if you don't know these things you don't know them.

It will be fine.

RambamThankyouMam · 05/01/2023 17:37

Huh?

That's literally a marinade.

DNBU · 05/01/2023 17:38

It’s safe. The juices in the sauce cooks with the chicken.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 05/01/2023 17:39

😅😅

DrMarciaFieldstone · 05/01/2023 17:39

The world has become full of handwringers

Fairislefandango · 05/01/2023 17:42

Confused Of course it's safe. That's how marinating things works! If raw chicken is going to be safe to eat once it's cooked, how os the sauce not also going to be safe to eat?

reallyhatewinter · 05/01/2023 17:43

Amongst all the depressing stuff on here, this has made me smile!
OP - it's fine. Smile

Mummieslncorporated · 05/01/2023 17:49

I wonder if the people that are saying yanbu haven't realised that everything is in the fridge?

Op, have you never seen raw meat with added sauce/marinade/flavour on the supermarket shelves?

Nobody has said that OP is not being unreasonable tho...

NRCOA · 05/01/2023 17:53

I think the query is the safety of having the meat in the slow cooker bowl, overnight in the fridge...

Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Dis626 · 05/01/2023 17:55

Why would you think this is a food safety risk? Absolutely nothing wrong with this at all YABU

unconventionalfrog · 05/01/2023 17:56

Nope eat it, it'll probably be really tasty Smile

Mirabai · 05/01/2023 17:56

There are people on MN who haven’t even heard of cooking.

How is this a thing?

Craghopper1 · 05/01/2023 18:00

How do you function day to day op?! Grin

WeepingSomnambulist · 05/01/2023 18:02

This is ridiculous. It is called marinating. You marinade in a sauce and then you cook it. If it is something like a BBQ then you would pick the meat out and stick it on the BBq as excess sauce just drips. If it is something like a curry, then you put the meat with the sauce into a pan/slow cooker and cook it all. That is how cooking works.

You might be confusing it with the BBQ type cooking. When you marinate meat and then remove it from the marinade, you dont then use the marinade with the meat juices to baste because near the end of cooking, you're putting raw meat juices onto it and they wint be cooked properly. When doing BBq style, you remove the meat from the marinade and then use fresh marinade for basting. Then when near the end of cooking, the fresh marinade can still be brushed on as there are no raw meat juices.

This only matters when you're not cooking the marinade fully for the proper time. Which is not the case here. Here, your husband is fully cooking the whole lot and not adding raw meat marinade at the end stages.

It is absolutely fine. I suggest you educate yourself around food safety.

Neverhot · 05/01/2023 18:06

Are you being serious? That's completely normal?

NewYearNewName2023 · 05/01/2023 18:11

Sorry OP but YABU (and a bit weird)
