I hate to say it but when I was 18 I would have been a total Lydia. Thought myself excellent, liked to party and get attention from boys. I’d definitely have done something fucking stupid like run away with a handsome but twattish commander who didn’t know when to put his little solider away.

These days I’m far more Lizzie. A bit cynical, attracted to men with nice houses and like a to wind up arrogant obnoxious men.

Could never be a Jane. I’m not nearly nice enough Grin

I could probably see myself in all of the Bennetts on occasion, including the parents, unfortunately!

sweatyshower · 04/01/2023 23:55

I'm their mum. Total gossip and a bit dim witted.

Kanaloa · 04/01/2023 23:55

Exactly - although I don’t believe Lydia was malicious, her selfishness was insane. Running off with a man could have destroyed the entire family’s prospects, all her sisters could have been ruined, and when they were already in such a precarious position too. Mr Collins was wrong to say it like he did, but I don’t think his thinking would have been crazy out of whack at the time.

Although I guess Wickham is the real villain of the piece, taking advantage of impressionable young girls. Or maybe her parents for not actually guiding her.

Don't forget the hypochondria! We've all been there!

CallMeBubbleDarling · 04/01/2023 23:59

I would say I was a kitty when younger but now more of a Lizzie. Though that quiz just told me I was a Jane. No way am I nice enough to be Jane.

Lizzie knew it would go tits up on Brighton and Mr Bennet was like “STFU I’m after an easy life”.

This is when my Lizzie comes out - I have a good “this will go tits up” radar and I find 99% of the time I’m right and I REALLY want to say “I told you so”

@LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet the quiz has just confirmed for me that I'm a Mary Blush

In truth, I see myself as an unfulfilled Lizzie. Plenty of cynicism and (I flatter myself) intelligence, but no Mr Darcy for me!

Baconand · 05/01/2023 00:09

Mostly Lizzie

Although on a difficult literary tract I was named after a Little Women character and that is much more apt!

AdoraBell · 05/01/2023 00:11

Lizzie, even when I was younger. My cynical core has never wavered.

cariadlet · 05/01/2023 00:13

The Buzzfeed quiz told me I'm a Lizzie but I still think I'm probably more of a Mary - definitely not quick witted enough for Lizzie.

Although I am outspoken, strong willed and am loyal and protective. Maybe there's a bit of Lizzie in me after all.

LateAF · 05/01/2023 00:17

Probably a Jane- the sensible, well behaved and slightly reserved one. But I would love to be a Lizzie - but although I appreciate good humour, I’m not nearly quick witted enough or assertive/ confident enough to be a Lizzie.

BenoitBlanc · 05/01/2023 00:18

As a teen I was Kitty - desperately wishing to be Lydia but far too plain and unpopular for any of the men I threw myself at to be interested.
As an adult I'm Mary, and I'm okay with that.

Andsoforth · 05/01/2023 00:19

As a teen I thought I was a Lizzie but I’m more of a Charlotte in terms of opportunities.

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 05/01/2023 00:21

Someone mentioned Mrs Wickham on audible and I really enjoyed this book. Will definitely get round to reading some more retellings this year.

I'm probably a Lizzie with a dash of Jane and my sister would have had elements of Lydia - younger than me and always getting caught doing naughty things.

cantley · 05/01/2023 00:29

Colleen McCullough ( Thorn Birds) wrote a book called The Independence of Miss Mary Bennet. Haven't read it, but it's Mary 20 years on from P and P.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/01/2023 00:34

Lydia always!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/01/2023 00:36

Although Buzzfeed says Lizzie

DaisyChristina · 05/01/2023 01:36

I did the quiz and got Jane!

Jane Bennet
You are very reserved and always try to see the good in everyone you meet. Everyone around you appreciates how good-natured and caring you are. You may not be the loudest person in the room, but everyone holds you in high regard.

This does describe me, she was my favourite sister in the series.

GerronBuzanDoThaWomwok · 05/01/2023 01:39

Alan 🤓

Crackof · 05/01/2023 03:00

I don't think I'm any of the Bennet sisters really. More of a Mr Darcy.

Ask me about Mitford sisters though. That's waaay more interesting. Also, Decca.

learieonthewildmoor · 05/01/2023 03:27

Jane Austen told her family that Kitty married the curate at Pemberley and Mary married one of her Uncle Phillips’ clerks, and enjoyed being the leader of the Meryton society.
Austen makes it clear she thinks Charlotte is doing something dangerous by marrying without love. She says that Charlotte gets by spending as little time as possible with her husband and it’s the enjoyment of her own home that gets her by. Lizzy pities her. Lizzy could not live with a man she didn’t respect.
If Charlotte can, it means to Austen she is lacking in feeling and sense.
Charlotte would not have been able to get by with popping out a few children and then shutting up shop. Husbands had absolute authority over wives. They had asylums for disobedient wives.

Effieinamaisonette · 05/01/2023 04:23

I'm a mix. I have Jane's beauty and Elizabeth's wit. The modesty is my own.

sallyfacts · 05/01/2023 04:27

It's Lizzy rather than Lizzie. Just to point out.

hopelessbusiness · 05/01/2023 13:26

I've often thought that Charlotte's intelligence and sense would eventually rub off on Mr Collins and make his company a bit more bearable...maybe?

Ablababla · 05/01/2023 13:40

Love to be a Lizzie but I’m probably a Kitty

there’s a book ‘the independence of miss Mary Bennett’ written by the person who wrote the Thorn Birds. A bit silly in places but a good characterisation of Mary in her later years.
