Pelvic pain

Aibu to feel like the midwife is just fobbing me off?

So I have been having pains since Sunday night after a bath in my pelvis which felt like period pains and would get sharper now and then like contractions. It had gone by next morning but couldn't feel fm so went to daycare. All was fine but pain hasn't gone. They did a check on my cervix and it's all closed and there's no infections etc which is all fine.

However, I'm getting frustrated that the midwife fobbed it off as being PGP, when at least the Dr and other midwife admitted that it could be lots of different things and they weren't sure.

The reason I'm not sure if I'm being unreasonable is because I don't know how encompassing PGP can be. I've been having hip pain and back pain that comes and goes and generally only gets worse after walking. This pain started like period pains and caused waves of pains that come and go (will have hours of a break). It got to last night and whenever I stand up I can't stand up straight and I keep getting really bad cramps right in my pelvis. It is even painful if my stomach is touched. If PGP encompasses all those types of pains then cool but Im not sure if I does.

Thank you for replies.

That sounds like PGP to me. It can be quite intense. That said, you’re right to keep an eye on it and to seek help again if you notice a change in your baby’s movements, or if you have cramping that intensifies with time and isn't relieved by walking/moving and staying hydrated.

I don't think anyone fully prepared me for how uncomfortable pregnancy can be. Parts of me hurt, that I didnt know EXISTED!

I hope you get some relief soon.

@UpToMyElbowsInDiapers thank you for your reply. It's mostly the cramping that is worrying/the most painful because I didn't know if PGP could cause that. I think I'm mostly bothered by the fact that when I tried asking when is worth being concerned (seeing as I don't want to keep going up there) she only replied with just take the painkillers.

Your midwife should be willing to have a conversation with you about “when to worry”. Not being willing to have that conversation is unimpressive, and I understand why you feel fobbed off.

Your current symptoms don’t sound overly worrying, but in the past when I’ve had cramping during pregnancy I’ve been told to watch out for bleeding, dizziness, change in foetal movements, or cramping that becomes rhythmic / predictable and with an intensity that you can’t talk through (I.e., contractions).

I had absolutely hideous cramping at around 24 weeks with DC3. Lasted 7 hours, with pain so bad I was in tears. I thought I was losing the baby. My midwife’s recommendation was Acetaminophen, a warm bath with Epsom salts, drinking lots of water, and resting. I was sceptical but it worked.

I was having an intensely stressful time at work during that period, and getting a handle on my stress reduced the frequency and intensity of my cramping. I thought my midwife was a bit airy-fairy about it all, but it turned out she was right.

@UpToMyElbowsInDiapers I'm definitely going through a bit of a stressful time at the moment so it could definitely be that.

I've been in tears too on and off all day with the pain, it's crazy that just being pregnant can cause so much pain.

I absolutely don't mind at all if it is PGP it was just the dismissal after I'd been up there for 5 1/2 hours by that point.

OP, I could have written this post! Been in tears today from the pain. How are you feeling a few weeks on?

Autumnlily14 · 07/02/2023 18:58

@IVFAnon my pain has since eased thankfully. Went to physio and mine is unrelated to pregnancy and apparently part of my hips are too tight
