Plane landing

Trigger warning flying for those that may not be keen … x

Am I being unreasonable to think that the below was a bit concerning / any pilots want to enlighten me?!
have flown a lot when younger / pre children but felt this was different

budget airline flight, approx 300 passengers Boeing 737
landing very wobbly on approach ( think close to runway)
huge bang on landing / touch down landing gear
worst bit!!! Very very intense what felt like attempts to break without slowing …. Loudest reverse thrust noise ever and the cabin shaking so so much
I felt pinned back in my seat and awaited a huge issue!
afterwards everyone was studded … one women crying and a few choice words heard through the cabin….
Thoughts please

Was it Ryanair? They have a reputation for rather violent landings.

SoupDragon · 04/01/2023 16:31

I've had a few landings like that so I don't think it's totally unusual.

Sukisal · 04/01/2023 16:32

It was all fine though, wasn’t it?

Ravageur · 04/01/2023 16:33

Meh. I have had a few like that. After one such the pilot said sorry about that had to get down quick as the slot would have closed!

but the cabin always shakes and the reverse thrust is always loud

BIWI · 04/01/2023 16:34

Which airport were you landing at? Some of them have shorter runways, so the planes have to come down much steeper/harder

GivenchyDahhling · 04/01/2023 16:34

I’ve had almost the exact same landing as you’ve described a few times (v frequent flyer).

It’s a shit landing. But not “concerning” as such.

boboshmobo · 04/01/2023 16:35

Was the weather bad? I've flown a lot and things happen .. you only need to worry if the stewards look scared .

AffIt · 04/01/2023 16:35

As the old RAF saying goes, 'a good landing is one you walk away from, a great one is when you get to use the plane again.' 😄

ILoveeCakes · 04/01/2023 16:35

In strong winds there might be a need to land it a bit more "firmly" than usual

'Did we land, or were we shot down?' 😂

PuttingDownRoots · 04/01/2023 16:44

I had a plane miss the runway once and had to serve back onto it. 😂sudden crosswind apparently.

The only time I've been worried was when it was heavy fog and had to be done completely on instruments... it was them checking several times that all phones etc were switched off (not airplane mode) before hand that was worrying.

janeeyreair · 04/01/2023 16:45

Ive had a few where you can really feel the brakes working if that makes sense. the feeling of being pinned back in the seat is pretty normal as well I think.

DashboardConfessional · 04/01/2023 16:46

I have that almost every time I land at Bristol. Specifically the bang, roar and G-force in your seat.

SheWoreYellow · 04/01/2023 16:46

Sounds like it was really windy.

BigMadAdrian · 04/01/2023 16:49

I've had a couple of landings over the years that have made people squeal - I'd say what you describe is a heavier than typical landing, but not a near miss or anything too scary.

The worst landing I ever had was also in heavy fog - very nearly down and had to go around because the previous plane was still on the runway!

IncessantNameChanger · 04/01/2023 16:49

Sounds pretty normal to me. Had a few touch downs with a bounce before it was properly down. I don't mind landing though. It's taking off and banking that I hate. I do agree that Ryan Air do seem to come down with a thud and abrupt brake, but I would fly with them again if I could avoid them.

SeenAndNot · 04/01/2023 16:50

Today? It’s flipping windy, makes landings much choppier.

Atadconfussed · 04/01/2023 16:50

Oh gosh yes Ryan air and yes Bristol!!!

Yeah it’s windy round Bristol today.

roses2 · 04/01/2023 16:51

I was on a Ryanair flight like this yesterday! Was a bit concerning especially as it was going super fast on the runway after it landed!

Wow! Mumsnet nailed it on page 1. We all know what to avoid now!

Yes, Bristol's known for difficult landings when it's windy.

I think it's like flying through turbulence though - can be rough for passengers but not dangerous (assuming seatbelts fastened)

Planes are usually so smooth in the air that we can panic when we feel anything, but it's amazing how little we feel really.

Oh, yeah, totally normal then! My last one was a March EasyJet in Bristol. It's very high and exposed.

Nimbostratus100 · 04/01/2023 16:54

Doesn't sound like the smoothest landing I have experienced, but doesn't sound unusual either
