Plane landing

Trigger warning flying for those that may not be keen … x

Am I being unreasonable to think that the below was a bit concerning / any pilots want to enlighten me?!
have flown a lot when younger / pre children but felt this was different

budget airline flight, approx 300 passengers Boeing 737
landing very wobbly on approach ( think close to runway)
huge bang on landing / touch down landing gear
worst bit!!! Very very intense what felt like attempts to break without slowing …. Loudest reverse thrust noise ever and the cabin shaking so so much
I felt pinned back in my seat and awaited a huge issue!
afterwards everyone was studded … one women crying and a few choice words heard through the cabin….
Thoughts please

Normal for Ryanair.

Atadconfussed · 04/01/2023 16:56

Last night .
thanks for All replies…. Easily rectified question!
Bristol = regular issue
short run way=high reverse thrust
windy= self explanatory

ryan air= standard practice - the video was really helpful thanks

I knew it was Ryan air before I even read the whole thing 🙈 fly quite a bit but Ryan air always have a really hard landing. I once read there is a reason why Ryan air do this but I can't remember why.

Just a rough landing

I was subject to one of these at Stansted a few years back, never as bad since even when flying into Dublin in winds so high I had to hold my glasses on when leaving the plane

Anotherbloomingchristmas · 04/01/2023 17:00

The worst landing I had was when they were testing the autopilot.
Really fast and shaky.
Also always feels worse at the back.
I've just paid £17 to sit at the front of my next flight.

Confrontayshunme · 04/01/2023 17:01

There have been crazy jet streams recently due to the bomb cyclone over North America. Both ways on our trip to America for Christmas had the worst turbulence I have ever experienced. I luckily had a motion sickness patch and my DDs had Stugeron, but my DH was unwell and the pilot actually stopped all the services and had the seatbelt sign on for FOUR HOURS. He literally said "I need you all to buckle in jump seats, and that includes all flight staff in the rest area. This is a really severe patch of jet stream, and I need you to stay put for your safety." We had several big drops like a roller coaster but he flew really well.

Why did I find this small thread so satisfying 🤣 worst I've had is Exeter in thick fog, almost got diverted but was ok at the last minute after circling about six times. Can't do an automated landing there as the runway is too short. Could not see a single thing out the window and it was a bang of a landing but still, it was fine.

Confrontayshunme · 04/01/2023 17:03

The landing at heathrow took the entire length of the runway which has never happened before.

FuckabethFuckor · 04/01/2023 17:04

I see your Bristol in the wind and raise you Gibraltar in pretty much any conditions, if the pilot(s) didn't get the approach angle just right. Many memories of skimming along the runway, before having to pull up very steeply and circling around to try again... it was like a rollercoaster except not at all fun.

emotionalmotionsicknesss · 04/01/2023 17:04

I’ll think of this thread when I land back in Bristol on a Ryanair flight at Easter 😂

Spaghetti201 · 04/01/2023 17:05

Was it raining or been raining? Sometimes they have to land firmly so as not to aquaplane on the water (ie skid across the tarmac)

Minfilia · 04/01/2023 17:05

Just to add as well that the more junior pilot usually lands the plane (not the captain) unless there are extenuating circumstances (although the captain will take back control if the FO does something dramatically wrong!)

I have several friends with hard landings recorded in their log books when they first started flying passengers commercially. Probably a combination of weather/short runway/inexperienced pilot.

purpledalmation · 04/01/2023 17:05

Very strong winds at the moment

BadBear · 04/01/2023 17:07

I was born on a Greek island with a tiny runway so every time I go home, the landing is a bit like this!

Karwomannghia · 04/01/2023 17:08

Skiathos?

HermioneWeasley · 04/01/2023 17:09

Apparently Bristol airport is an old RAF one
that was specifically chosen for that location so they could practice difficult take offs and landings as it has its own microclimate. I used to fly into there weekly

saturnisturning · 04/01/2023 17:09

🤣🤣🤣🤣

im using these!!

Budgiegirlbob · 04/01/2023 17:10

I asked my nephew , who is a newly qualified pilot, why Ryanair do hard landings. He assumed they’re trained this way, but did also say a hard landing is actually safer than a smooth landing, but passengers prefer a smooth one.

Hahaha what?! They decided to build a commercial airport at a runway designed for difficult take offs and landings?!

Whatmarbles · 04/01/2023 17:12

We landed in Manchester many years back and it was that hard a landing the oxygen masks dropped down 😂
The woman opposite us vomited in shock.

HermioneWeasley · 04/01/2023 17:12

No @fajitaaaa they repurposed an existing airport

Ponderingwindow · 04/01/2023 17:12

I’ve had landings like that on many different airlines and at many different airports. Always in interesting weather or conditions. The worst ever being heat and smoke from fires.

Atadconfussed · 04/01/2023 17:12

Ah this is all actually soooo interesting 🧐 thanks all

Love that landing 😁

Was the weather bad? I've flown a lot and things happen .. you only need to worry if the stewards look scared .

I've been on a flight when the stewards looked worried 😬 It was hideous, I was sick as soon as we got off. That was a landing in very strong winds and rain. It honestly felt like the plane was going to flip sideways.
