Are there any circumstances that you would drive whilst disqualified, I am talking about real life emergencies which could result in life or death?

OP posts:
Dodecaheidyin · 03/01/2023 18:13

Why are you asking?

MonkeyPuddle · 03/01/2023 18:14

Who’s done what then OP?

Merryoldgoat · 03/01/2023 18:14

well, yes - life or death. Not THAT hard to imagine a scenario.

bloodywhitecat · 03/01/2023 18:15

No. If you are under the pressure of a life or death emergency you are probably not best placed to drive anyway.

TrashyPanda · 03/01/2023 18:15

Why do you ask?

bestchristmasever · 03/01/2023 18:15

I can't imagine one no.

AnotherAppleThief · 03/01/2023 18:16

Maybe in a terrorist attack situation?

SirenSays · 03/01/2023 18:16

🧟‍♀️🧟‍♀️ only during a zombie apocalypse

HoneyIShrunkThePizza · 03/01/2023 18:17

Maybe if I needed to drive to London, to buy a Heat magazine?

ShippingNews · 03/01/2023 18:18

Yes of course.

Bard6817 · 03/01/2023 18:18

Yes - to save the life of a child who was in my car and it would to be to get to a hospital.

Otherwise - no no no no.

toomuchfaster · 03/01/2023 18:18

Maybe if I needed to test my new glasses prescription??

RoseslnTheHospital · 03/01/2023 18:19

To safe a life if there was absolutely no other option, and only if I was actually fit to drive. Can't imagine that would ever be likely to happen though.

Vitriolinsanity · 03/01/2023 18:19

Yes, if it meant getting a person to hospital with no ambulance available. But I'd have someone else drive back.

SkylightSkylight · 03/01/2023 18:20

Yes - if theBaileys was running low or I fancied halloumi & chips.

NewBootsAndRanty · 03/01/2023 18:22

If I thought I'd left the oven on.

WestBridgewater · 03/01/2023 18:24

So the only person available that could drive is disqualified? No friends, family, neighbours? I think if they tried they could get someone else. The whole point of a disqualification is that you don’t drive or else why don’t you get someone who’s never passed their test or someone who’s over the drink-driving limit?

5128gap · 03/01/2023 18:26

Yes of course. Like anything else, if the consequences or risk of not taking an action were more harmful than the consequences or risk of taking it, I'd take the action. So in this case, to prevent violence or serious harm to myself or others. With the proviso that my ban was not for something that meant I was equally dangerous, such as epilepsy, visual impairment or complete incompetence behind the wheel.

Letitrainletitrainletitrain · 03/01/2023 18:28

Are you the poster from the other week who was determined to drive after being banned for your mot?

I can't drive (MN no no I know, buts it's for medical reasons) and I've manged to go 40 years without an emergency that would force me behind the wheel (technically I know how to drive I'm just not allowed to)

Are there no taxis where you are? Nice neighbours? family members?

In an absolute emergency if I couldn't wait for an ambulance or a taxi I know of at least 4 neighbours who are around most days who would take me to hospital etc

ShinyMe · 03/01/2023 18:28

I mean, maybe in a post apocalyptic Survivors style thing where I'm escaping to the Lake district up the M1. Otherwise no.

^^ That is something I think about more than you'd imagine.

RoseAndRose · 03/01/2023 18:29

IANAL

But I'm pretty sure that this one is taken very strictly.

If reason is life and death emergency, you may still get a conviction but the lightest possible sentence.

The only circs I can think of where you either won't get charged in the first place, or might have a complete defence, is if you were complying with a direct order from a police officer who you had informed of your disqualification but who told you to move the vehicle anyway (obvs only applies to moving it the shortest possible distance to a safe spot, not a free pass to drive around)

illiterato · 03/01/2023 18:30

if I was a passenger and the driver crashed the vehicle and was unconscious but I was ok and we had no phone reception on a deserted road and I had to drive to get the driver to hospital

No, it's a common theme in my house too.

Zombies
Alien invasion
Skull island baddies

They are all excuses. Maybe triffids.

nancydroo · 03/01/2023 18:33

Only if the person was very unwell yep

WestBridgewater · 03/01/2023 18:34
