Are there any circumstances that you would drive whilst disqualified, I am talking about real life emergencies which could result in life or death?

Ohhhhh what have you done op?!
Or trying to find excuse to cover for someone?!

Maybe if I needed to drive to London, to buy a Heat magazine?

This is the only excuse the police would consider.

I'm going to sound very cold hearted, but this isn't an emergency as far as I can tell

The passenger wasn't in labour, she was in pain and had had previous miscarriages but there is usually nothing that can be done if it's a miscarriage so waiting for a taxi would have made no difference

And given then knew she was pregnant, would go into labour ar some point, and he couldn't drive they really should have had a plan in place for when that happened that didn't include a disqualified, unlicensed driver taking her to hospital

I appreciate that probably sounds a bit harsh though and I appreciate I'd she had miscarried before there is a lot of emotion mixed up with the decision making

I mean, maybe in a post apocalyptic Survivors style thing where I'm escaping to the Lake district up the M1. Otherwise no.

^^ That is something I think about more than you'd imagine.

I moved to the kind of place people would run to in an apocalypse and I still idly plan sometimes 🤣

Are you same the person who keeps posting about how they drive when banned and thinks it's acceptable/won't go to court over it?

Untitledsquatboulder · 03/01/2023 18:41

No but obviously if it were to save your child's/mum's/dog's life you'd have no hesitation and would just take the fine.

ShinyMe · 03/01/2023 18:42

Now I think about it, you'd need the M6 for the Lakes, wouldn't you? I'd have to drive up the M1 to Scotch Corner and then go left a bit and maybe head for the Highlands instead.

sunshineandstrawberryjam · 03/01/2023 18:43

Literally life and death, yes. Like..if DH (who has severe asthma and had to be resuscitated before) had a bad asthma attack and I couldn't be promised an ambulance within minutes, for example, and I think most people would. However, I'd also accept that I might be prosecuted if caught. I'd just rather to go prison than let DH die.

365names · 03/01/2023 18:46

No you aren’t insured. You are banned as you aren’t a sensible driver and don’t follow the rules and so banned. If you are caught banned and driving I personally think it should be 5 years minimum in prison and that’s without having an accident.

Sure.

A deranged serial killer is chasing me with a machete and the only way to escape is by commandeering a conveniently parked vehicle and hot-footing my way out of dodge.

Is that what you had in mind?

Hamster1111 · 03/01/2023 19:05

Yes I would. I'd rather take the fine / go to prison than let someone i love die when I could have saved them. No question. In the car and foot down.

SomeCommonThing · 03/01/2023 19:09

For sure zombies. And giant spiders.

XenoBitch · 03/01/2023 19:10

No. I would be dangerous behind the wheel. Pointless adding to an already precarious situation.

Circumferences · 03/01/2023 19:14

Why were you banned in the first place?

BruceAndNosh · 03/01/2023 19:14

If I unexpectedly discovered I'd turned into a celebrity in need of some coke...

MichelleScarn · 03/01/2023 19:15

Have you found the last shop that has a crate of Prime at normal prices?
Seriously hoping this is a 'what if' query and you're not the poster who's disqualified and wants to drive to MOT rather than taking all the sensible advice given of SORN, getting garage to collect etc.

Our nearest A&E is 40 minutes away so if it was my DH he'd be dead before we got there anyway.

Lovemusic33 · 03/01/2023 19:25

Are you the person that posted about your ds driving when disqualified a week or so ago?

Theres no excuse to drive without a licence. You wouldn’t be insured, you would be risking a prison sentence and there isn’t really any reason/excuse that a court would look at and say…..”yes, it was an emergency so it’s ok” 🤔

Whowhatwherewhenwhynow · 03/01/2023 19:31

If someone had a catastrophic bleed and blood was pumping out and the ambulance was going to take ages I might try to get them there instead.

any scenario I can think of is very unlikely

ProfessorSlocombe · 03/01/2023 19:34

You would need a spectacularly good reason. I would be surprised if it could happen.

You are looking at a defence of necessity to the charge of driving while disqualified. And the bar is extremely high.

Remember a lot of things that sound good in the pub ... less so in court.

StrawberryWater · 03/01/2023 19:38

Life and death and during and ambulance worker strike sure.

Otherwise no, coffee and cake can wait for another day.

you can bleed out in 5 to 10 minutes, you would be far better off with someone with a catastrophic bleed to apply pressure and try to get the bleed under control than jump in the car and try to get them to hospital

(I appreciate you were probably not entirely serious...)

LexMitior · 03/01/2023 19:39

Good luck with the court case.

toocold54 · 03/01/2023 19:50

I am talking about real life emergencies which could result in life or death?

Obviously if it’s a choice between life and death you will choose life and pay the consequences of driving later on.

If my child was dying I would happily spend 10 years in a prison for driving her to the hospital whilst banned.

Loics · 03/01/2023 19:53

I think you've answered your own question - a life or death situation. Would still be illegal, but if my choice was, for example, drive my child to hospital if they became seriously unwell or wait for an ambulance/taxi and hope they made it, I'd drive them and face the consequences later.
