Are there any circumstances which would lead to drive while disqualified

Are there any circumstances that you would drive whilst disqualified, I am talking about real life emergencies which could result in life or death?

OP posts:

Medical emergency, no one else around, willing to sacrifice everything I own to potentially save a life

Otherwise, it's a No from me

ImaginaryDragon · 04/01/2023 18:42

If there was a threat of life and death. Absolutely. I would not wake a neighbour unless I couldn't move the person myself. By the time a neighbour woke up or even just answered the door I would be virtually at the hospital. If I could avoid delays I absolutely would. Better to ask forgiveness, than permission in life and death situations.

As others have said, zombie apocalypse. That link to a partner having pains in pregnancy wasn’t a real emergency and that’s the sort of thing that if you can’t drive, you should have a plan in place for. He was just using his partners past medical history to try to worm out of driving illegally. Idiot.

I wouldn’t be such a twat as to lose my license in the first place though. Much easier than coming up with fake excuses as to why you had to drive. 🙄

You do know some people lose their licences due to medical reasons, out of their control. I wouldn't be such a twat as to presume otherwise...

Driving away from a volcanic eruption.

People who lose their licenses for medical reasons have them revoked. This thread (and so TeamHerbivore’s comment) is about having been disqualified, which is different.

@NumberTheory what I'm actually saying is there would never be a scenario where I live, where there are no other options. Also if I was disqualified from driving I wouldn't have a car, DH would but it would either be at home with him hence no need for me to drive, or he'd be out in it, in which case I couldn't drive it anyway.

And if it was DH home, in need of immediate trip to A&E and unable to drive?

ShinyMe · 03/01/2023 18:42

Now I think about it, you'd need the M6 for the Lakes, wouldn't you? I'd have to drive up the M1 to Scotch Corner and then go left a bit and maybe head for the Highlands instead.

You need the A1M, Shiny (misses point of thread).

StickofVeg · 04/01/2023 19:02

Only if I needed to go to Barnard Castle Grin

NEVER again. I bloody hate the A1M. Hate it hate it hate it.

purpledalmation · 04/01/2023 19:07

To save a life, otherwise no.

Coconut212 · 04/01/2023 19:10

No the person is banned and has no insurance

RewildingAmbridge · 04/01/2023 19:19

@NumberTheory he's 6'4 I can't even lift him let alone drag him to a car several hundred feet away. So I would definitely need help , if he doesn't need moving , he'll survive the 10 seconds it takes to call one of my neighbours

Maybe if I needed to drive to London, to buy a Heat magazine?

😂😂😂

LynetteScavo · 04/01/2023 20:04

Maybe maybe if I was walking somewhere remote by myself, and then all of a sudden someone in a panic holding a gun with an unconscious person thrown over their shoulder tried to carjack a car, but the person behind the wheel of the car became hysterical and fainted, so the carjacker (with the injured person still over their shoulder) tossed the care driver out of their car, pointed the gun at me and told me to drive them to the nearest hospital, shouting "Drive, drive drive!!!", as I hesitated. Maybe I would then.

They would be shit out of luck with me then I don't think I even remember which order the pedals go in 😂!

underneaththeash · 04/01/2023 20:09

I suspect if you’re ignorant enough to get banned, your judgement’s bit great anyway so no.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 04/01/2023 20:14

I can’t drive (for medical & medication reasons) and it would have to be an impending disaster like avoiding a cloud of nuclear fallout/volcanic eruption/the Rapture/plague of killer clowns for me to grab DH’s keys & drive the car.

The lives of others are far too important for me to risk them by getting behind the wheel & driving again.

Even in the event of a real life emergency I would call a neighbour or local friend, just as in the same way I’m the one they call to do first aid on the hoof if they’ve been taking relatives to hospital after accidents/med emergencies.

Maytodecember · 04/01/2023 20:18

If someone was dying in front of me and the only way to save them was me driving while disqualified I’d have to do it. Or I suppose if someone was being kidnapped and the only way to get away was me driving, yes again.
But as I’ve never even had a parking ticket I think the chances are low.

LynetteScavo · 04/01/2023 20:35

Or what about if I was the only adult on a school bus, apart fries.
The driver, and they had a heart attack, so I had to take control of the wheel.

I can imagine the headlines now: "Disqualified Driver Saves Children's Lives."

I might even receive an award.

If the driver is having a heart attack, the chances of you managing to notice, get up the bus, wrestle the bus driver out of the seat, sit down and take back control of the bus are slim to none. In fact you are less likely to be in an accident if you don't do that as you would be creating a far more dangerous conditon

You wouldn’t necessarily have to lift someone in need of urgent, life saving treatment. Unless you are housebound, it wouldn’t necessarily happen in your home. Your neighbours might not be home. Or might be unable to be woken, unable to drive, etc.

You’re highly unlikely to ever be in such a situation. But it isn’t impossible.

StrawberryAnnie · 05/01/2023 00:01

Yes, if there was a tsunami, or large scale forrest fire and I would die unless I drove.
