To ask for help with DD school tie?

Sorry, first world problem I know. I told DD that I used to do my tie at school so that the top button could be left undone but it didn't look too obvious so wouldn't get told off, and that I'd show her how to do it so she can do the same since she doesn't do her button up but constantly gets into trouble. It's not a chavvy fat knot, it looks quite smart but I can't remember how to tie it or what it's called. Bit of a long shot but any ideas? It's quite a large knot but has a smart appearance.

Amy DH doesn’t wear a tie to work unless a big corporate meeting - loads of staff are now casual.

About time we ended this crap with uniforms.

emmaliz · 02/01/2023 23:17

We used to wear our ties with the thin bit showing, nice! then after a while the fat knot came in. Wore as low as possible ofc

It's the third thread I've read in the past hour where that poster has been gratuitously unhelpful/ chippy with an OP. Best ignore them, it's not personal.

Certainly tome to do away with ties. Pointless and uncomfortable.

I could never stand having my top button done up. It felt as though I was being strangled. Sensory issues can loom very large when uniforms are required. They need to be taken into consideration by schools; not everyone is neurotypical.

Might collar button extenders also work?

justasoul · 02/01/2023 23:42

My DD never buttons up the top button because she finds it fiddly and hard to unbutton, but you can’t really tell when she’s wearing a tie… I’ll ask her what she does Grin

justasoul · 02/01/2023 23:51

Had a quick google as not familiar with knot names Blush but looks like she does the 4-in-hand mentioned above. My DF taught her to do a half Windsor but she thought it was a bit much…

Hankunamatata · 02/01/2023 23:54

Windsor knot. Dc use them and leave top button undone

Sorted. Thank you for those who helped.

Don't think my 2 ever had their top button done up but the tie hid it with just a normal knot. The school has no stupid rules about top buttons and ties though so it wouldn't be an issue anyway.

And what is a 'chavvy fat knot', pray tell?

This, as modelled by DD3's friend, though not worn as low as this for school apparently!😂
