Scrabble, jizz and my mother

I spent New Year with my elderly mother. She's a huge Scrabble fan, and we played several games.

In one game I realised I could get the highest score I've ever got for a word. It would blitz the game, and triumphantly crown all my years of Scrabble playing. It included two Zs (one from a blank), and a triple word score.

But the word was JIZZ. I realised I couldn't face the ensuing conversation with my mother, so it went unplayed.

Was I unreasonable to forego the most euphoric Scrabble moment ever, because I wouldn't explain jizz to my mother?

I managed to score 96 yesterday by playing quiz with one of the 10 point letters on a double letter score and triple word score. I still lost 😂

Slang is fine as long as it's in the Chambers Scrabble Dictionary (which has a useful list of 2 and 3 letter words.

You should definitely have played it. You never know, your mother might have been able to make a double word by joining on a word ending in y.

My Irish mother used that phase often too. If she was lacking energy she would say “I’ve no jizz in me”

My mother, when in her 70s, used to play with friends of a similar age. One was a good player, but very naive. My mother, who was less intellectual but not so sheltered took great delight in increasing her friend's vocabulary as they played, in particular with the word 'cunt'. She very rarely used such language in speech but anything was game if it would get her a few bonus Scrabble points! 🤣

But there is the blank tile!
Why are so many posters going on about there only being one z tile. She literally said that the 2nd Z was using the blank tile.

How are all these people so knowledgeable about Scrabble that they know there is one z tile but they've totally forgotten about the blank? Or were they just so excited to call bullshit on someone that they didnt stop and think and now they look stupid.

You are being unreasonable. I have played Cards Against Humanity with my mother in law. She slayed us all, including all her grandchildren who were impressed and horrified in equal measures.

This reminded me of the time I played scrabble with my late DM, the words all had a theme, I think GIT was one of hers!

I once had to feign complete ignorance (and sudden deafness) rather than explain a joke about oral sex to my lovely (but easily appalled) mum. Many a bum-clenching moment whilst watching TV with her. 😂. I do miss her!

You don't score anything for the blank, I thought, so no numerical advantage in having jizz over jiz. They'd both score j=8+ i=1+z=10 all times by 3, which is 57.

That's how we've always played it anyway.

To score a really high number you want an 8 letter word that plays onto both triples (so x6), using one letter already there. My dm had "quarrels" once. That scored around 150, including the 50pts for getting rid of all your letters. I'm not sure df has played her since then, which must be about 30 years ago.

I'm feeling poorly tonight and all this talk of scrabble and jizz, and gravy boats has really helped me to feel a bit better.

This is a genuine pic of the scrabble board when I was playing with my son and his gf over Christmas… I suppose at least he used Standard English.

I beat my son, dil and other son at cards against humanity at Christmas.. a naughty 4 letter word in scrabble is nothing!
(I presume the high score in OP’s case would be the J or scoring Z being on the triple letter eg 1x8 + 1x1 + 3x10 + 0 for the blank, all times 3 would be 117..)

Next time say "don't know what it means but it was in the word list". Scrabble players accept this!

But JIZ may have stopped short of the triple word and adding the blank on the end to make JIZZ would get the triple word score.
