LONG RANT! To never put any feedback on EBAY again - not even positive - because they ALWAYS delete any negative feedback I put?! (And even the neutral feedback!)

Regular user, NC for this.

I have been a member of ebay for about 8 years and have sold a few things, (maybe 40-50,) but 90% of the time I am the buyer. Over the past year and a quarter, I have purchased a number of things. (maybe 35 or so,) and have put positive feedback for 29 of them. However, in this same timeframe, I have put a negative feedback for a seller 3 times, and I have put neutral feedback for a seller 3 times. (6 different sellers.) My feedback reflected the experience, and was authentic and genuine.

I put all the negative/neutral feedback because I did not receive the item, and in addition the seller was rude and unhelpful and pretty useless and obnoxious, and didn't help or assist me in any way. Each time I raised a dispute with ebay, I got a refund from ebay! (NOT the seller.) And they were all justified negatives and neutrals IMO.

EVERY. Single. One. of my negative or neutral feedback has been deleted. I can only surmise that the seller has thrown their toys out of the pram and demanded it was removed. I got a refund with each case, but ONLY after I raised a dispute. And EBAY gave it, not the seller!

I didn't threaten the seller with a negative if they didn't give me a refund, I didn't libel them on the feedback, and I didn't say anything rude or personal. There's NO reason for ebay to delete my feedback.

Two sellers in the past 4 months have ignored my queries about when my item will be sent, and my pleas to please chase the delivery company when it's gone past the delivery deadline. And when I raised a dispute (after it passed the deadline for the delivery date,) they emailed me demanding that I close the dispute or they won't help me. I didn't, obviously. And THAT (IMO) is well out of order.. demanding I close the case!

I got a refund each time - which I deserved as the item never came, but every one of the 3 negative and 3 neutral feedback were deleted - within a couple of hours! They can't possibly be demanding removal of the feedback just because I got a refund. It wasn't even the seller who gave it, it was ebay!

AIBU to think this removal of the negative and neutral feedback makes an utter mockery of the whole feedback system? I can't trust any sellers fully anymore, and can't believe their feedback percentage. It may say 98.3% positive, but in reality it's probably more like 80-85%. If that.

Sellers can't give negative feedback to buyers anymore, but buyers can give it to sellers. HOWEVER, it seems if they whinge and spit their dummy out, ebay removes the negative or neutral feedback. No. Matter. What!

I preferred it when sellers COULD give buyers negatives or neutrals, and the buyers negative and neutral feedback didn't get wiped off within a few hours.

I am so pissed off right now, after a very well justified neutral feedback I put earlier today, with accurate and honest comments about the seller, got deleted within 3 hours. I am 100% not going to EVER put any feedback on ebay at all now. They can fuck right off. On the occasions that I have forgotten to do it, ebay email me and say 'feedback is a VERY important part of ebay, please give the seller your feedback.' And yet unless it's positive, they fucking delete it!

As I say 'AIBU to never EVER put any feedback again, ever, not even positive?' And AIBU to think ebay deleting negative and neutral feedback (because the seller is clearly stamping their feet and spitting their dummy out,) that the feedback percentages are a load of shit? If they're going to delete anything that isn't positive, then fuck 'em! I am not going to complain to ebay by the way, they won't do anything about it!

ALSO, look on any forum on the boards about ebay and their feedback, and there are 100s of posts by people complaining that their negative or neutral feedback has been removed. Makes me wonder why there is still a BIT of it actually. The sellers must get about three quarters removed, and leave a bit, so it looks 'authentic.' Hmm

@EvenleyWitch

Coincidence I just came across this thread here as I was in day 3 of raging that my accurate and truthful negative feedback was removed from eBay.

I'd saved up and purchased a mulberry handbag described as brand new. On arrival bag gutted to see the bag had 2 very obvious flaws . Seller refused return and lied that the flaws were done after she sent it, yet I could proo xx EBay refunded me, and I simply wrote a feedback saying double check with seller for flaws before purchasing anything expensive.

Next day it was gone.

How can you trust eBay's seller review system when you know only positive ones are allowed to stick? Hmm

THIS it the kind of thing I mean. Thanks for sharing that. Flowers I am sorry your handbag was shite but glad you got a refund.

@DelilahBucket

Apologies I misread.

That's OK. Thank you. Flowers

@DaisieM

Is it not because once you've had a refund it nulls the transaction between yourselves therefore no feedback both ways?

I did think about that when one was deleted a while back, but that doesn't explain why there are other negatives and neutrals standing, stating the seller was useless, unhelpful, or rude (or all 3!) and they had to go to ebay for a refund.

As I said, some negatives and neutrals do remain, as I believe the seller wants SOME to remain as it makes it looks more authentic, OR (more likely,) he isn't able to get ebay to remove ALL negatives and neutrals!

The seller I put the neutral feedback for yesterday, (who has 1000s of feedback,) had 55 neutrals in the past month, and 155 in the past 6 months, and 33 negatives from the past month, and 115 negs from the past 6 months.

Makes me wonder how much it would be if the seller didn't get lots of feedback deleted!

As I say, I can't trust feedback percentages any more., and whilst it seems a shame for the many good sellers, I won't be putting any feedback at all now when I buy anything... Not even positive.

If ebay are going to delete every feedback review I put that is not positive, then I won't put any at all.

Can't WAIT for them to message me saying 'please submit your feedback. Feedback is an integral part of ebay yada yada!!' Oooh, they will get SUCH a mouthful from me. Shock

Neg feedback under a positive banner fits the removal criteria if left by sellers for buyers, I have a feeling it would also work the other way round though so might not be successful.
As others have said contact eBay, make a fuss and ask why factual feedback was removed.

I wasn't going to bother reporting, but it may be worth a try I guess. Sellers shouldn't be allowed to get factual feedback removed. Also, yeah you may be right about clicking positive, but putting negative comments. Thank you. Flowers

Use to sell on eBay and I'm sure from my memory if an item was refunded you couldn't review each other as technically no transaction had taken place.

Stop selling because the refund does come from the seller eBay just makes the decision. The number of people claiming not to receive their item was fairly high. But the cost of tracked postage was too high to make any money.

yes, you are probably right, although it doesnt make sense. If you've recieved a refund for an item forced through ebay, if seller refuses, it definitely show allow feedback to be give, as its indicative of a problem with the item the seller sent. In my case, i only got my refund £660 - bc i mamangemed to trap the seller into admitting she'd been decietful and lied about knowing the item had flaws.
Surely thats exactly the kind of information other buyers have a right to be warned about, or at least made aware. I simply said, ask seller to confirm description of item as new or used as she has not been so honest with me. I only got a refund by a whisker. Nearly £700 is a lot to lose. That..and this thread, has definitely put me off buying anything pricey from ebay again,

Have you tried copying the negative feedback which was left to stand ?

I am wondering if there's something about the words/phrasing which is meaning the seller is successfully challenging the feedback.

No I haven't tried copying anything, but it may be interesting to have a nosey at them all, keep track, see which ones disappear, and see if there's a pattern. I literally wrote NOTHING derogatory, untruthful, and threatening through, I think it's the seller(s) throwing their toys out of their pram.

As I said, some negatives disappeared a couple of months ago. 6 (including mine) disappeared in a couple of hours or so. I had thought some had disappeared with a previous seller, so 'printscreened' about 20 negatives to check later, and lo and behold, mine and 5 others (from that day!) had gone!!!

As I say, it makes me wonder how many more negative and neutral feedback there WOULD be if none were removed! It's very bad form removing peoples feedback, and only leaving the favourable ones, because as I (and a few others have said,) it makes a mockery of the whole feedback system, and you don't know which sellers you can trust!

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I am not leaving any feedback for any seller again ever now. Not even positive. And I can't WAIT for ebay to contact me about it!!! They always contact me if I haven't given feedback, and a couple of weeks have passed. (It's usually because I forgot!) They always send their 'feedback is sooooo important on ebay, and is an integral and essential part of ebay' blurb. Yeah right, as long as you only put POSITIVE feedback eh? Hmm

It’s very annoying that eBay does that and they can get away with it! The seller Superstarz-1069 was so disrespectful and threatened me with my eBay account suspension if I’ve left her a negative review. I left her a negative review and I see that she has 100% positive feedback.

Did you really reanimate a year old thread to moan about a specific eBay seller?

BMaj0218 · 05/12/2023 15:09

About the seller and eBay. I wasn’t aware eNay does that and when I Googled I came across this thread. Year ago or not, it looks like this is still a current topic!

BMaj0218 · 05/12/2023 15:33

I honestly think that people should know that eBay does this to users. They make all sellers look wonderful and sellers can get away with lying, being rude and treating customers badly but if you visit their profile you will see 100% positive feedback. The seller l bought from recently is an excellent example. If you find this seller on eBay, you will see that this seller has 100% positive feedback. This is so misleading. If I knew that I will be treated so badly, I’d pay more for a good customer service. I think people should be able to make informed decisions!

Youngman1267 · 31/12/2022 22:39

But if the seller sent the item and it got lost during transit, why should the seller lose money too by giving you refund? It wasn't their fault either. I'm assuming ebay wouldn't give a refund without proof of postage so your feedback has been removed because it wasn't the sellers' fault. I thought getting in touch with ebay first would be the best option to check the seller has proof of postage before leaving negative feedback.

Because the law says so!

I really think some MNers need to go and find out a bit about their consumer rights.

If you order something, the liability is with the seller until it is delivered (correctly). As it should be.

Also sellers choose their carriers, so they can choose someone reliable (and not Evri).

enchantedsquirrelwood · 05/12/2023 16:00

I didn't know this was an old thread but I hope that the new laws coming about fake reviews will mean ebay and Amazon will stop this.

Please read my OP properly. I don't give neg or neutral because I didn't get the item. I ONLY give it if the seller is rude, unhelpful, CBA to chase the delivery firm, and ignores my messages until I raise a dispute and THEN demands I close the dispute. Also EBAY refund me, not the seller. I don't ask for the refunds ebay refund me!!

What score out of five would you give someone on eBay that sold a pole pruner chain as a genuine replacement part but wasn't when I received it (haven't used it yet so can't vouch for the quality)? Thanks.
