To be sick of people looking at my 29w pg belly and saying "so who ate all the pies then?"

This has happened twice in the past 3 weeks to me... the most recent today with a friend as she greeted my arrival at a party.

IMO, it's plain bloody rude (excuse language but I'm just fed up!) to say this to anyone, but to a pg woman who may be feeling particularly sensitive about her body shape at the present time it's particulalry insensitive don't you think?

MN crowd support required!! And can anyone think of a cutting retort for the next person that says something like this to me? I'm always too shocked and inwardly upset to say anything back....

I am guilty of this too However, I am also pg 33 wks so it was obvious that I wasn't being rude, just friendly.

IMO it is rude, but they are probably jealous because you are beautiful fertile WOMAN who is making lovley baby.....that's what i try to remind myself every time someone trills ' "ooh you are big for 26 weeks, i didn't show at all at your stage" (said to me about four times) or "are you sure there's only one in there?" (said to me several times over last few weeks). if you want to be really horrid back you could always pretend you think they look pregers too! nothing like someone asking if you are preggers when you're not to take the shine off your day hee hee

YANBU...but wait until they say it after you've given birth, save your bile for then.

Oh and I definately ate all the pies, doughnuts with custard, chocs, chips, whole pizzas etc, etc, etc!!! LOL

Believe you me,you will be just another invisible woman hunched behind a plastic bag laden pram once the baby arives.

My friend thought it'd be funny to call me fatty all the way through my pregnancy and then when she came to see me after she told me i still looked pregnant! lol. If i ever said anything sarcastic back she'd simply say "oh pregnancy hormones". Grrrr!!!

Its bloody awful, people may think it to themselves but they shouldn't say it.
Tell them you can do something about it ie give birth but what can they do about their podgy belly

As I said to someone on a similar thread recently, they are not tryign to offend you.
When someone is pg it feels rude not to mention something, so they have either of two responses

1. What a cute little bump, you're hardly showing

or 2.Wow, aren't you big, sure it's not twins. And variations of the two.

Just ignore it, there is no need for cutting remarks back they really arent trying to hrut you, if you want to make them feel like prats then just say 'I know I feel so terrible, I've been really down about it actually, and everytime I pull myself together someone else mentions it', they'll soon feel guilty.

BTW am 31 weeks so I know exactly how it feels.

When I was pregnant a woman at work used to constantly pull my top up to look at my belly, I had to restrain myself from hitting her every time as I yanked my top back down! Why is it that when a woman is pregnant people think they have a right to touch your stomach, comment on the size of you bump, arse, puffy ankles etc?
Next time someone makes a thoughtless comment why don't you just say to them "I'm feeling very sensitive about my body at the moment and the more people point it out the more I feel self-concious. Sorry, I know you're not trying to be unkind - It's just that my hormones are everywhere". They will feel really guilty and you can bet your life they'll think before they speak in future!
If it is said by someone you don't care about upsetting then just say "Well I'm pregnant but what's your excuse?" either that or point out their balding head, greying hair, wrinkles etc.

I used to think that pregnancy would be the big equalizer where fattys and skinny minnies alike would bond over enormous bellies but its so not true. I wanted a beachball bump, all neat and round, but instead I just looked fatter. Gutted.

Last night at a my work Christmas party ( Yes, I know it's January!) my male colleague commented that my evening dress showed off my "big bazungas" Still trying to decide if the fact that he's gay makes it OK for him to say that!

LOL at piggyp and her friend calling her fatty! My mindees mum who is about 20st if she is a pound, calls me fatty when I am about 13st 7lbs at 8mths pg . The thing that makes me laugh is that she says 'oh, I didn't show with dd!' No bloody wonder!

I just say 'I might be big now, but you should have seen me last time! This is 2st lighter! Oh and dd was 9lb 12oz so this is probably an elephant!'

Crowd support here too... Tell 'em to get lost. Don't even be polite about it. You're pregnant, and allowed...

I had this all the time too to varying degrees of idiocy. One time in M&S being measured for maternity bras, standing there in maternity jeans with the oh-so-sexy elastic waist and 28-week pg belly: asked for maternity bras and was met with "are you pregnant or something?"

Second one was in Asda, struggling with shopping. Cooing cashier: "when are you due? You're massive!!!". Me: "Today, actually."

Anyone calls you fat, just look at them and say "yes but I have an excuse". Use again following the birth...
