To learn about yoga

...in a culturally appropriate way?

Shamelessly using aibu for traffic.

Am an occasional would-be yogi but aside from learning the positions I have no idea what the teachers are talking about half the time!

I'd like to learn about yoga - to understand the basics properly so I can learn about the different types properly - but everything I find online seems to written from a very western viewpoint.

So, aibu and if not can anyone point me towards a website or book that can help?

I would suggest BKS Iyengar's Light On Yoga as a starting point... But I am an Iyengar student, it is very specific to his lineage so wouldn't cover other styles, but for the hatha yoga approach, it is a clear and comprehensible intro.
