To ask your help with stains on metal

Hi guys,

Sorry, not an AIBU technically, but I need the wise ideas of mumsnet.

So I have a metal back splash behind the oven hob. I assumed it's stainless steel but honestly I'm not sure what it is.

For months I've used the cilit bang kitchen degreasing spray with no issues. A couple of weeks ago after cleaning I noticed some white stains on the metal where the product had sprayed and sat for a moment before I wiped everything down. Then I noticed the bottle was a new bottle which says "new improved formula"

I've tried just using warm soapy water and I even tried bar keepers friend to get rid of the white marks but neither have worked.

Does anyone have any ideas on what else I could try to take out the stain?

Have you tried one of those white magic eraser sponges? I have used them to get marks off the outside of metal
pans and baking trays where nothing else has worked.

I haven't actually! I'll grab one when I next go shopping and see if that helps, thank you!

I had a similar problem on my extractor fan when I moved into my house, I tried everything from mild abrasives to heavy duty chemicals, nothing worked. I used elbow grease degreaser for the first time for routine cleaning and it fixed the problem. I have no explanation why.

The pink stuff. Honestly that stuff is amazing.
